WHAT IS GO BUILD?
The Go Build campaign is designed to educate
young people on the value of learning a trade, dispel
their misconceptions about the construction and
manufacturing industries and inspire them to consider
building a career as a skilled tradesman. Through this
public awareness effort, public relations and social media
campaign, Go Build aims to provide better opportunities
for craft tradesmen, more highly skilled employees for
businesses and enhanced economic development for
Indiana and the nation.
THE SITUATION
The Situation The skilled trades that helped build
Indiana’s diverse economy have seen a drastic reduction
in the number of new laborers over the past decade.
For every four tradesmen that retire, the industry is only
producing one to take their place. This has left a critical
skills gap that must be addressed. Reducing this skills gap
is the purpose of Go Build Indiana. Over the next several
years, skilled trade job opportunities are expected to
boom but without a workforce with the proper training,
skills, and experience, these jobs will go unfilled.
With more than 7.2 million employees nationwide,
industrial and commercial construction has long
been one of the nation’s largest industries. But today,
construction company owners across the nation and
right here in Indiana are facing a growing shortage of
tradesmen such as pipefitters, ironworkers, welders and
carpenters.
The skills of construction tradesmen are in high demand,
and with a 39% projected growth rate through 2018.
