User experience design involves taking a user-centered approach to product design by researching user behaviors and needs and testing designs directly with users. This helps reduce risks, speeds development time, potentially reduces costs and timelines, and increases customer satisfaction by creating products that meet user expectations.

Describe what’s going on in the diagramsSo going back to what Jesse Garrett said about user experience, about putting the psychology and the behaviour of people at the centre of product development > that supports this view of how people see our stuff. So user experience design process takes a very different approach to product design when compared to the traditional method of designing a product. So let’s first talk about the traditional approach to making digital stuff.

Here we have a more traditional approach for making digital products. Alan Cooper, the grandfather of interaction design (which is under the umbrella of ux) says “The traditional way: start programming as soon as possible. Apply visual design at the end, if at all”. “The single most important process change we can make is to design our interactive products completely before any programming begins.” Traditional way: programmers make significant decisions about how users interact with software or websites – while in the middle of programming.“Does this process seem fairly familiar?” I’ve stepped you through this process because UX turns this process around.. Allowing the same person to design and program creates a conflict of interest. Programmers want a product to be easy to code.“Designing products in a way that takes into account the psychology and the behavior or the people using the product” Jesse James Garrett“You are not your user. Neither is your boss”. And why’s that. We’re all pretty smart people. Most of us were uni students once, so we kind of have an idea of what that was like.
In terms of time, you are spending more time. You are spending a little more money upfront. However in terms of quality you’ve invested. The trade off is that the extra time and money you spend during this phase is much cheaper than redoing the whole project when you release a product that fails. Cheaper in terms of you wont need to run another project, and cheaper in terms of things that are more difficult to quantify like reputation and brand.I think most people know of some UX deliverables but may not be sure what they’re actually for. So we talked about usability testing. That’s one. Ux designers, and all designers, are not artiststs or gurus or whatever. Design is about communicating and engaging. Art is about self expression.
Can you use the site? Yeah. Would it pass a usability test? Probably. You write your scenarios to test the design with users around the requirements.
