2. The 1980s saw the reinvention of Michael
Jackson, the super stardom Prince and the
emergence of Madonna and Whitney
Houston, who were among the most
successful musicians during this time. Their
videos became a permanent fixture on MTV
and gained a worldwide mass audience.
Music in the 1980s
The 1980s was one of those years that saw
the birth of Madonna’s music career and
the African American cultural taking over
the urban pop world.
3. Madonna’s music career began when
she signed to Sire Records in 1982
and then she released her debut
album the following year. Madonna is
known for pushing the boundaries of
lyrical content in mainstream popular
music as well as visual imagery in her
music videos and when she is on
stage.

of her album called Like A Prayer which
came from her fourth studio album. The
video for Like A prayer was
controversial because the way she
portrayed it. The pope had banned her
video because it was bad from a
religious point of view.Like A Prayer became Madonna’s
seventh number one single on the
US Billboard 100

the first African
American artist to have
his music video aired on
MTV in heavy rotation.
His album Thriller from
1982 became the best
selling album of all
time. He was the
biggest star of the
1980s.

President of the United
States Of America from
1993 to 2001.

A member of the
Democratic party, Clinton
was a new democrat and
many of his policies
reflected a centrist third
way political philosophy.
Clinton was elected
president in 1992 defeating
Republican opponent
George H W Bush.
