herself but also her baby. She must have
regular check ups with her doctor for her
health and for the baby’s health.
•Breastfeeding is the feeding of an infant or a
young child with breast milk direct from the
mother’s breast. It is highly recommended to
all mother because of many advantages.

6. • Getting back in shape after giving birth should
be the aim of every mother.
• normal for a mother to feel tired after having
gone through labor delivery, and physical
changes.
• The life of a mother will change dramatically
and there will be days when she cannot finish
a work within the day.

mother may feel tearful, irritable, depressed
and tired.

see a doctor.

woman should undergo while conceiving a baby.
• At prenatal check up, several testsmare conducted,
like blood test to check blood type, and urine test to
check for sugar and proteins levels as signs of
diabetes and kisney changes.

weight but also of the health of the unborn child.

9. Postnatal care
 There are numerous care being done to an infant that is
supported by our government.
1. Essential Newborn Care (Unang Yakap) - aims to reduce the
newborn mortality from 13 deaths to 10 per 1 000 live births, by 2015.
2. Newborn Screening - practice of testing every newborn to detect
and identify harmful or potentially fatal disorders.
3. Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration (APGAR) - a
quick test given to a newborn baby. test includes the breathing
effort, heart rate, muscle tone, reflexes, and skin color.
4. Immunization (Vaccination) - protect the body against infectious
disease.

medicines or devices. It works by studying
the woman’s body and menstrual cycle.
1. Ovulation Method or Cervical Mucus
Method - woman uses the menstrual cycle
as a guide. the presence of cervial mucus
is a sgn that a woman is fertile and is prone
to becoming pregnant.

body temperature at rest.
3. Lactation or Amenorrhea Method - While
breastfeeing, the ovulation of the mother
stops. This is the natural and healthy way of
spacing the birth of children.

practices) to prevent pregnancy.
1. Oral Contraception - woman takes
hormonal pills to prevent pregnancy.
2. Intrauterine Device (IUD) - a small sterile
plastic device that is introduced into the
uterus in order to prevent pregnancy.

materials and are worn on the penis to
prevent semen (sperm) from entering the
woman’s vagina.
4. Diaphragm - a dome-shaped cup made to
cover the uterus he cervix to prevent the
union of the sperm cell and egg cell.
