SOL 3.8: Sun, Earth and Moon 9. SOL 3.8: Life Cycles 9. SOL 3.9: Water Cycle 10. SOL 3.10: Resources 11. SOL 3.11: Sources of Energy
3. SOL 3.2- Simple Machines A lever moves around a fixed point called a fulcrum. *A simple machine helps people do work!* A wedge is a made up of two inclined planes placed back-to-back A wheel and axle is made up of a large wheel attached to a smaller wheel or rod.
4. SOL 3.2- Simple Machines, cont.. A pulley is a rope or chain and a wheel around which the rope fits A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a pole that is usually used to hold things together. An inclined plane is a flat surface with one end higher than the other.

6. SOL 3.4- Life Processes Behavioral and physical adaptations help an animal to survive Mimicry Migration hibernation camouflage Instinct
7. SOL 3.5- Living Systems Animals and plants are interdependent producer consumer decomposer herbivore carnivore omnivore
8. SOL 3.6- Living Systems, cont.. Environments support a diversity of plants and animals share limited resources Dry-land environments Deciduous forest Desert rainforest grassland Coniferous forest
9. Water-related environments SOL 3.6- Living Systems, cont.. Environments support a diversity of plants and animals share limited resources wetland river stream ocean pond

11. SOL 3.8- Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Change The Earth revolves around the sun. Each time it makes one revolution , we have one year! The earth rotates on its axis which causes us to have night and day.
12. SOL 3.8- Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Change The tilt of the Earth causes seasons. When one hemisphere is experiencing summer, the opposite hemisphere is experiencing winter. The sun rises in the East And sets in the West Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon
13. SOL 3.8- Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Change A life cycle is all the parts of a plant or an animal's life from birth to death. The life cycle of a bird is made up of unhatched chick, chick, young adult, and adult
14. SOL 3.9-The Water Cycle The energy from the sun drives the water cycle. Water is a natural resource and needs to be conserved. evaporation condensation precipitation
15. SOL 3.10- Resources natural events and human influences can affect the survival of species recycling Air pollution conservation Floods
16. SOL 3.10- Sources of Energy Renewable resources Nonrenewable resources Fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas Sources of energy: sunlight, water, wind, wood and fossil fuels
17. SOL K.5- Sink or Float sink float Some objects will float on water, while others will sink. float sink wood fruit paper metal metal
18. SOL 1.2- Moving Objects straight circular curved back and forth: vibrations Examples include: humming, strumming a guitar, or plucking a rubber band The motion of objects may be:
19. SOL 1.3- Materials interacting with water Some liquids will dissolve in water, while others will not. Most substances will dissolve better in hot water than they will in cold water. Things that will mix easily in water Things that will not mix easily easily in water vinegar milk baking soda powered drink mix sugar salt Oil sand soil rocks
20. SOL 2.2- Magnets A magnet is a piece of iron that pulls things that are also made of iron or nickel. Similar magnet poles repel , opposite poles attract .
21. SOL 2.6- Weather Common types of storms floods blizzard Tornado hurricane drought
22. SOL 2.6- Weather We use various tools measure weather. thermometer Rain gauge Weather vane
