The document discusses the target audience and genre for the film "The Tester". The intended audience is males aged 18-28 who enjoy violent, crime-related genres similar to Snatch and Lock Stock that involve thrills and machismo appeals. This audience listens to music on BBC Radio 1 and in the charts. The film's opening scene is meant to relate to crime-focused openings in other films in the genre like Snatch and Se7en to attract a similar audience. Feedback noted that the music worked well but there was too much, and different cameras caused inconsistencies that should be improved.
2. The target audience for our film would be men
likely around the age of 18-28 and would be
seen as ‘lads’.
3. We chose a male audience due to the fact that
the film involves violent scenes as well as gang
and thug life which is more commonly viewed
and enjoyed by men due to its masculinity
connotations.
4. The target audience we have selected would
enjoy this film as it relates closely to films such
as Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking
Barrels as well relating to other films such as
Green Street which may attract a slightly
younger and perhaps a different audience
completely.
5. The target audience for our production would
be stereotypically seen as the ones who may
want to be viewed as ‘macho’ and who are
young men. They’d watch films to get cheap
action thrills, drama and then the crime factor
which reinforces the thrills from the action.

6. The audience would be targeted to be the type
who’d watch Danny Dyer’s films and Ross
Kemps programs such as Ross Kemp on Gangs
and the Football Factory as these kind of
programs involve action and the macho appeal
of this genre attracts them towards it.
7. The music the target audience would be
interested in would usually be anything which is
aired on BBC Radio 1 as well as majority of
music within the charts. E.g. Professor Green,
Pendulum etc.
8. This audience would watch my film as it involves
common traits which are in other films which
the audience may view, such as drugs and
violence which both have masculine
connotations and would attract more of a male
audience than a female one.
9. Evaluation Task 5
• Film opening is revelant to other films of the
genre
• Cross Promotion
• Feedback
10. Our film opening links in with other films of our
genre such as Snatch. The reasons for this is
because it starts off with a crime as well as our
opening does which is a convention of thrillers.
Snatch also starts off with a gang which relates
to our opening also.

11. Se7en also starts off with off with a murder
which relates to our opening, but Se7en follows
the policemen trying to catch the criminals,
which is different to our film as our film follows
the criminals.

12. Due to the fact that these film intros are closely
related to my opening, then the audiences from
those films will most likely enjoy and be
attracted to watch our film.
13. The music we used in the opening fits in well
with other films within the genre and helps
create an eerie atmosphere. This is because of it
being industrial genre, it makes everything seem
more gritty and dark which suits the crime
thriller genre well.

14. In some films the production companies use
certain products to create awareness of them
such as cars and drinks. E.g. The Audi TT in I-
robot seems much more superior than other
cars within the film.
15. Some media products that would work well
within our film would be the brand of clothes
which are being worn in the film such as the suit
which Max is seen wearing, as well as certain
bands/artists which get mention or played
throughout the film.
Certain drinks which the characters have
could be placed there for promotion, such
as the protagonist only drinking Diet Coke.
16. After having a feedback session in class and
once we showed some of our friends and family
the production we gained some insightful ideas
in how we could improve our film as well as
what was good with it.
17. Positive Feedback
The use of music in the film was praised as it worked
well and helped create a tense atmosphere, although
some say there was too much music going on. The
different variety of shots as well as the different sound
effects were good and helped create a strong narrative.
Also the use of the Miramax logo at the beginning
worked well.
18. Criticism
The production got criticised for certain reasons such
as the camera used at the beginning was different to
the camera we used after causing different quality of
shots. Some of our clothes change slightly as we move
location as it was raining and the pace inside the garage
needed to be more fast pace at points.
