PRIORITY
Busyness is one of the greatest

From his early experiences as an Air Force jet
fighter pilot and POW in the prison camps of
Vietnam to an award-winning author, presenter,
and leadership consultant, Lee Ellis shares his
concerns about the lack of accountability in our

UNFOCUSED
Some leaders don’t take the time to
focus and decide what they want to
happen—what success will look like.
LAZY
Sometimes leaders are too lax
in their approach, figuring that
somehow it will get done.
FEAR
Some fear the responsibility of
holding others accountable—which,
at times, means being firm and
risking “negative emotions.”
MANIPULATION
The motivation is to intentionally avoid being
too specific. This allows for wiggle room to
change their minds later or to distance
themselves from a bad decision.
GOVERNMENT
The EPA has been under fire
for their inability to deal with
dis-honorable behavior. The
VA (Veterans Administration)
has repeatedly been a new
horror story of
mismanagement, deception,
duplicity and most troubling
of all—a lack of accountability.
The IRS, GAO, DOE and more
have been under fire for
unethical practices.
EDUCATION
The former Chicago Public
Schools chief as well as
Atlanta Public Schools staff
and teachers were found
guilty of illegal activity
because of a lack of
accountability. Think what a
culture of courageous
accountability could do for
the students.
FINANCE
Enron was a fast-rising flash in
the pan. Arthur Andersen was
old, established, and respected.
Together, they were tossed into
the pile of fallen icons. Then
we’ve seen many of the banks
paying fines for ethical
violations. Wells Fargo and
HSBC are two recent ones, but
the list is much longer.

EDUCATION The former Chicago Public Schools chief as well as Atlanta Public Schools staff and teachers were found guilty of illegal activity because of a lack of accountability. Think what a culture of courageous accountability could do for the students. FINANCE Enron was a fast-rising flash in the pan. Arthur Andersen was old, established, and respected. Together, they were tossed into the pile of fallen icons. Then we’ve seen many of the banks paying fines for ethical violations.
