9. Handling floppy disks The DO’s The DON'ts Always store disks in a standing position in a disk box. Do not place heavy objects on disks. Insert the disk carefully and gently into the floppy disk drive by gripping the upper edge of the disk Do not touch the disk surface or the shutter. Always label your disk approximately. Use a felt-tip pen to write on the label. Do not place disks near magnets or magnetized materials. The stored data can be destroyed by the magnetic field. Keep disks away from food and drinks which may damage the disk surface. Do not expose disks to extreme heat or to direct sunlight.
