PRESS RELEASE
The Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) is continuing in its efforts to secure
flights for the other nine (9) members of the CARIFTA team to Curacao.
To date we have found flights for sixteen of the 25-member team as follows:
6 persons with the Barbados Team, Travel dates: 13th
– 18th
April
6 persons via Miami, Travel dates: 12th
- 19th
April
4 persons via Trinidad, Panama City, Aruba. Travel dates: 11th
– 19th
April
On 23rd
February 2017, the GAA signed a Group Travel Agreement with Insel
Air to carry 25 members of Grenada’s Team on 13th
April from Port of Spain,
Trinidad to Curacao for the CARIFTA Games.
On 24th
February 2017, the GAA signed another agreement with Caribbean
Airlines to carry the 25-member team from Grenada to Trinidad.
By e-mail message at 1.25 p.m. on 13th
March the Local Organising Committee
of the Games in Curacao informed all participating countries as follows:
“As from March 8, 2017 our local airline Insel Air has introduced a new
flight schedule. Insel Air now only offers dedicated flights between the
islands of Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire and St. Marteen, If you have
already made arrangements to fly to Curacao with Insel Air, we urge
you to contact your travel agent about the matter and to explore other
possibilities.”
Contact was made on 13th
March with officials of the National Association of
Athletics Administration of Trinidad and Tobago (TTO) to include our 25-
member team in their charter to the Games.
By e-mail message at 12.55 p.m. on 15th
March sent to all CARIFTA
Federations, TTO advised:
“The National Association of Athletics’ Administration of Trinidad and
Tobago has secured a Charter for our team travel to the Carifta Games
which is scheduled to take place in Curacao during the period 15 -17
April 2017. We are aware of the difficulty being experienced by some
of our colleagues in securing flights to this destination. At present we
have sixty (60) seats available on this charter which departs Trinidad
on Thursday 13th
and returns on Tuesday 18th
April ….”
