Christmas traditions
in England.
From the 1st of December
to the 24th of December
children have advent
calendars which they open
every day.

Behind the doors are
chocolates or a picture.

We open the doors to count
down the days until
Christmas.
Some families have an
advent candle.

This is a candle with 24
marks on and is also to
count down the days
until Christmas.

Every day a bit more of
the candle is burnt down.
The children write letters to
                    Father Christmas to ask for
                             presents.

Good children get
presents.
Naughty children get a bag of coal.
The 24th of December is Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve people sing in the streets and
knock on doors to ask for money for charity.

They are called Carol Singers.
On the night before Christmas some people go to
Midnight Mass.

This is a special service at church where people
come together to sing Christmas songs.

It starts at midnight!
Christmas Eve is the night Father Christmas
comes and bring presents for the children.

Children hang stockings at the end of their bed
or on the fireplace and wait for their presents.
Children leave out food for Father Christmas and
the Reindeer.

                             Biscuits and milk for
                             Father Christmas

 Carrots for the Reindeer
On Christmas Day, we open our presents and
then we watch the Queen´s speech....
