A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis
Politcal participation
1. INTRODUCTION
Hello classmates!
My name is Kendall, I am a biology major with the intent in being
in Forensics as a career. I am super excited to see what the future
has in store.
2. Active Participation
■ The main reason I vote is because I want to practice my rights and vote
for who I believe will make positive changes in this country and the state I
live in. I think its important to vote, if no one were to vote, then the
government would be in charge of making decisions for us.
■ Change I would like to see: I would likeTexas to become more diverse and
accepting of immigrants, instead of jumping to deport them, why can’t
we help them become citizens.
■ Remain: I would like to see the Bill of Rights (first 10 amendments) stay in
affect. (I’m pretty sure they will).
3. What I learned
■ In this course I learned all about the different levels
and forms of government and policies.
■ I would like to learn a little bit more in depth of the
forms of government. I want to learn more about why
cities have their own governments kind of.
4. Political Issue
■ I think the biggest political issue we are having inTexas right
now is with education. The dropout rates are high and the
students are not at the level they should be in academics. This
is going to become a bigger issue if we do not get this under
control.These students are the future.
5. Texas Influencing Federal Government
■ I thinkTexas plays a pretty big role in influencing the
Federal government considering we have the second
most amount of representatives out of 50 states. We
are sitting at 36 representatives. I believe thatTexas is
a big influence on influencing FederalGovernment
becauseTexas carries 34 electoral votes and that’s a
pretty high number of electoral votes.
6. Going Forward
■ Going forward the main thing that will stick with me is the
importance of voting. I voted before just because I could, I
wouldn’t really look into who I was voting for, but it is very
important to practice that right and choose the best
candidate that will make a positive outcome on the country
or state government. As I said before, we don’t practice that
right then we will have no say in what goes on in our country.
