Tier One


Two essential components of a Tier One
Classroom:
 Evidence-based

 Instruction

attributes

interventions

by teachers with culturally responsive
Tier One


Teachers should continually focus on
professional development, seeking out
teaching methods that have proven effective



Teachers should also research new ways to
assess knowledge, particularly in language
and literacy. This is essential in the delivery of
intervention programs.
Tier Two


What is tier two instruction?
 Students

move to tier two after a period of not
making progress with tier one interventions
delivered with fidelity.
 Tier two instruction provides intensive intervention
that supports the general curriculum
Tier Two

•

For students who are irresponsive to tier two
support, tier two may be the point at which special
education is considered.
Tier Three


What is tier three instruction?
 This

phase of instruction includes a referral to
Teacher Assistance Teams (SST).
 Teams

should be made up of a diversity of
teachers, including an ESL teacher.
 The student should be observed in a variety of
environments.
Tier Four


Special education is classified as tier four.
Instruction is even more specifically tailored to
intensive students
 Special education assistance is ongoing and is
not limited to a set number of weeks as in tiers
two and three.


Response to Intervention: Tiers of Intervention

  • 1. RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION: TIERS OF INTERVENTION Cultural Considerations with Response to Intervention Models
  • 2. Tier One  What is tier one instruction?  Held in the general education classroom  High standards of instruction  Culturally responsive  Students continually progress monitored
  • 3. Tier One  Two essential components of a Tier One Classroom:  Evidence-based  Instruction attributes interventions by teachers with culturally responsive
  • 4. Tier One  Teachers should continually focus on professional development, seeking out teaching methods that have proven effective  Teachers should also research new ways to assess knowledge, particularly in language and literacy. This is essential in the delivery of intervention programs.
  • 5. Tier Two  What is tier two instruction?  Students move to tier two after a period of not making progress with tier one interventions delivered with fidelity.  Tier two instruction provides intensive intervention that supports the general curriculum
  • 6. Tier Two • For students who are irresponsive to tier two support, tier two may be the point at which special education is considered.
  • 7. Tier Three  What is tier three instruction?  This phase of instruction includes a referral to Teacher Assistance Teams (SST).  Teams should be made up of a diversity of teachers, including an ESL teacher.  The student should be observed in a variety of environments.
  • 8. Tier Four  Special education is classified as tier four. Instruction is even more specifically tailored to intensive students  Special education assistance is ongoing and is not limited to a set number of weeks as in tiers two and three. 
