The document discusses the various media technologies used during the different stages of a media production project. During pre-production, the student conducted research online using a Mac PC and Safari browser. An online movie database and video sharing website were used to gather information and watch trailers. A Wordpress blog was created to store research materials. In production, a Canon DSLR camera, tripod, and external hard drive were used to film footage. Post-production involved editing the trailer in Final Cut Pro and creating titles in Motion. Photoshop and Illustrator were used to edit photos and design ancillary products. Various online platforms like Slideshare, Soundcloud, and YouTube were utilized for evaluation.
1. 4. HOW DID YOU USE
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION &
RESEARCH, PLANNING &
EVALUATION STAGES?
2. PRE-PRODUCTION
• Extensive research into the forms &
conventions of real media products
Internet access needed – I used Mac PC and
Safari browser to access the web
3. PRE-PRODUCTION
• – Online movie database which I used to
gather information about genres, watch trailers for
films and understand the audience
• - - Similar to IMDB this website provides
information about films, genres, trailers etc. I find
its’s layout more user friendly and therefore used
it as a main source
• – Video Sharing website I used to watch
trailers and tutorials on how to use different
programs in the later stages
4. PRE-PRODUCTION
• - To store the information I gathered
during my research I have created a blog on
Wordpress. It allowed me to upload videos,
pictures and text as well as links to useful
websites to visit later
• I used the blog throughout the year to plan,
document and track coursework process
5. PRODUCTION
• This stage of the process includes creation of the film
poster, magazine cover and a trailer
• To film the trailer and take
pictures for magazine cover and
film poster I used DSLR camera
Canon EOS 650D
• Its size made it easy for me to
carry around
• The flip screen allowed me to
shoot from otherwise very
inconvenient angles and review
the material right at the set
• I used
Roland
Edirol to
record the
voiceover
for my
trailer
6. PRODUCTION
• Filming with EF 24-70 lens
enabled me to zoom in/out as
well as manually refocus objects
• I used Velbon tripod to shoot
static shots and eliminate
shaking that occurs while
holding the camera in hand.
• The size and ease of set up of
the tripod made manipulation
with it and switching between
different angles easy
7. PRODUCTION
• I filmed in the Czech Republic and needed to
bring the material back to the UK. To store the
recorded material I used Western Digital My
Passport hard drive.
• To view the clips I filmed on a bigger screen I
used my Asus EEE netbook. I also used it to
pick the picture for my magazine cover and
film poster.
8. POST-PRODUCTION
• This stage of the process included editing the
trailer and ancillary products
• - To edit the trailer I used Final Cut.
This program allowed me to cut & crop the
clips, join them together and add various
transitions such as dissolve, fade in/out etc.
• It also allowed me to adjust the speed of the
scenes, colour balance and add titles
9. POST-PRODUCTION
• Motion enabled me to create titles and
insert them to my trailer by importing to Final
Cut
• I was able to add behavour to the text making
it appear/disappear in different ways when I
needed
• I also used this program to create the Black
Cat productions logo
10. POST-PRODUCTION
• Photoshop allowed me to edit the photo I
took for the ancillary products by adjusting
colours and removing a flare that occurred due to
shooting against the sun using stamp tool
• I used Illustrator to create the ancillary
products. Ability to adjust each text field
separately gave me freedom to experiment with
fonts, colours, shapes and sizes
11. EVALUATION
• I used various platforms to answer the four
evaluation questions
• Powerpoint enabled me to create
presentations containing pictures
• I uploaded my presentations on
Slideshare to make them available to see
online
12. EVALUATION
• Soundcloud is a website for sharing
audio files. I used this site to upload my
monologue answering question 3
• Again I used Youtube to upload my
answer for question 1 which is in the form of a
video collage
13. EVALUATION
• Infogr.am is a website that allows
users create interesting & eye catching
presentations of data using graphs, charts etc.
14. CONCLUSION
As you can see I have used many types of
technology during my coursework, varying from
filming equipment and PC programs for video and
photo editing to different websites allowing me to
store and present my work.
It is apparent that internet access was crucial in my
work and thanks to constant access to it I have
learned a lot about the process of creating a media
product using all the technology specified in this
presentation.
