WHAT IS A SMART CITY?
• A city that uses current and collects new urban data from a
combination of information and communication technology
(ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT);
• A city that revolutionizes public functions such as
transportation systems, power, water waste management
and law enforcement through technological development;
• A city that responds to common urban challenges through
new methods developed by data analysis and use;
• A city that partners with leaders of the tech sector to
improve efficiency, management and governance of cities.

Climate Smart SDG Compact with
responsibility for leading the
implementation of the Climate Smart San
Jose Plan
Will serve as a long-term academic partner
to the City of San Jose in its SDG
Compacts. SUS's commitments include the
development and maintenance of a
Climate Smart & Sustainable Development
Local Reporting Platform and Dashboard.
Will provide catalytic support to implement
the San Jose SDG Compact by hosting the
Secretariat. Additionally, GDI will link the
efforts in San Jose and Silicon Valley to
local efforts in other US and global cities
for learning, sharing, and galvanizing bold
and transformative action.

Design Partners San Jose Race for Climate Smart Sustainable Development Department of Environmental Services, City of San Jose Stanford University Sustainable Urban Systems (SUS) Global Development Incubator Will serve as the city government responsible for overseeing the San Jose Climate Smart SDG Compact with responsibility for leading the implementation of the Climate Smart San Jose Plan Will serve as a long-term academic partner to the City of San Jose in its SDG Compacts. SUS's commitments include the development and maintenance of a Climate Smart & Sustainable Development Local Reporting Platform and Dashboard. Will provide catalytic support to implement the San Jose SDG Compact by hosting the Secretariat. Additionally, GDI will link the efforts in San Jose and Silicon Valley to local efforts in other US and global cities for learning, sharing, and galvanizing bold and transformative action.
