Create seating and stairs with retaining blocks
Fifteen years ago Holger Rust, owner of Terraforce – a local and international pre-cast concrete block licensor – developed a new retaining block, the Multi 4×4 Step block: a light, dry-stack concrete unit, generally used for constructing low terrace walls, stairs and seating arrangements.
Aimed at providing efficient and economical steps in conjunction with the original retaining blocks of his design, they soon became very popular not only for stairway access, but also to provide comfortable, practical stair and seating arrangements at leisure amenities and school sports facilities.

Grassroots seating
The method using standard Terraforce retaining blocks to create seating
and stairs was popular in the early years of the company, and although it
still represents the most cost effective way of constructing seating, it has
been steadily losing ground to the more sophisticated method of using the
4x4 step block.

The Terraforce 4x4 Multi Step block can work on it’s own or and in
conjunction with the L Range retaining blocks.
The method of combining the 4x4 block with one of their retaining blocks
has become very popular. The blocks can be inclined between 23 and 39
to enable the construction of a proper stand lending itself to constructing
small seating arrangements for pre-school facilities with; say 50 seats, to
large scale arenas, capable of accommodating 20, 000 spectators. With
proper planning, unsightly and eroding embankments can be turned in to
something useful and pleasing to the eye.
Like Terraforce’s products, the 4x4 Multi Step block requires low hardware
input for manufacture, low transport costs and low inventory
requirements at sales outlets.
