Suffering from knee pain? It is important to know you what is the cause of your knee pain and their physiotherapy treatment also. To know your types of pain and their various pain management treatment my slide will help you.
2. WHAT IS KNEE PAIN?
Knee pain is pain in or around the knee. The knee
joint consists of an articulation between four bones:
the femur, tibia, fibula and patella. There are four
compartments to the knee. These are the medial
and lateral tibiofemoral compartments, the
patellofemoral compartment and the superior
tibiofibular joint. The components of each of these
compartments can suffer from repetitive strain,
injury or disease.

4. ACUTE KNEE PAIN
Acute knee pains can be caused by an acute injury or infection. Chronic knee pain is
often from injuries or inflammation (such as arthritis) but can also be caused by infection.

5. CHRONIC KNEE PAIN
Temporary knee pain is different from chronic knee pain. Many people experience temporary
knee pain as a result of an injury or accident. Chronic knee pain rarely goes away without
treatment, and it isn’t always attributable to one incident. It’s most often the result of several
causes or conditions.

7. COMMON CAUSES OF KNEE PAINOsteoarthritis: pain, inflammation, and joint destruction caused by degeneration and deterioration of
the joint
Tendinitis: pain in the front of the knee that is made worse when climbing, taking stairs, or walking up
an incline
Bursitis: inflammation caused by repeated overuse or injury of the knee
Gout: arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid, one of the major cause of knee pain.
Baker’s cyst: a buildup of synovial fluid behind the knee rheumatoid arthritis (RA) a chronic
autoimmune inflammatory disorder that causes painful swelling and can eventually cause joint
deformity.
Dislocation: dislocation of the kneecap most often the result of trauma
Meniscus tear: a rupture in one or more of the cartilage in the knee
Torn ligament: tear in one of the four ligaments in the knee —That is the anterior cruciate ligament
10. MEDICATION
The main over-the-counter drugs are
acetaminophen (Tylenol and other brands)
and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
(or NSAIDs), including aspirin (such as
Bayer), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), and
naproxen (Aleve). These can help with
simple sprains or even arthritis.

11. INJECTIONS
Injecting it into a joint may lessen pain and
inflammation. ... A small amount of joint
fluid is removed first to make room for the
hyaluronic acid. Corticosteroid Injections
– Doctors sometimes inject corticosteroids
directly into the knee joint for quick relief of
pain and inflammation. But it has various
side effect.

12. SURGERY
There are several different types of surgery
offered to treat knee arthritis. Which
surgery, if any, is recommended will depend
on several factors, such as the patient’s age,
anatomy, general health etc.
Example:
Total Knee Replacement Surgery
Partial Knee Replacement SurgeryKnee
Osteotomy
Knee Arthroscopy

14. WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?
A common question for people that have never visited a physiotherapist is the very basic question of
“What is Physiotherapy?”
Physiotherapy can be defined as a treatment method that focuses on the science
of movement and helps people to restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function,
motion and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues.

15. Role of Physiotherapy in Knee Pain
Physiotherapy is an important part of rehabilitation following any kind of knee injury.
Physiotherapists possess a wide range of scientifically-based clinical skills that can be integrated
across a variety of knee injuries and surgical contexts. Physical therapy can help to reduce the pain,
swelling, and stiffness of knee joint and it can help to improve knee joint function. It can also make it
easier for you to walk, bend, kneel, squat, and sit.

17. CRYO THERAPY
Cryotherapy, sometimes known as Cold therapy, is the
local or general use of low temperatures in medical
therapy. Cryotherapy is used to treat a variety of benign
and malignant tissue damage, medically called lesions. The
most prominent use of the term refers to the surgical
treatment, specifically known as cryosurgery or
cryoablation. Cryosurgery is the application of extreme cold
to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue and is used most
commonly to treat skin conditions.Cryotherapy is widely
used to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling either via
soft tissue damage or postoperative swelling. DESIGN BY

18. HYDRO THERAPY
Hydrotherapy, formerly called hydropathy and also called
water cure is a part of alternative medicine, in particular of
naturopathy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, that
involves the use of water for pain relief and treatment. The
term encompasses a broad range of approaches and
therapeutic methods that take advantage of the physical
properties of water, such as temperature and pressure, for
therapeutic purposes, to stimulate blood circulation and
treat the symptoms of certain diseases.

19. MANUAL THERAPY
Manual therapy, or manipulative therapy, is a physical
treatment primarily used by physical therapists,
physiotherapists, occupational therapists, massage
therapists, athletic trainers, osteopaths, and osteopathic
physicians to treat musculoskeletal pain and disability; it
most commonly includes kneading and manipulation of
muscles, joint mobilization and joint manipulation.Three
notable forms of manual therapy are manipulation,
mobilization and massage. It is also most helpful in knee
pain. DESIGN BY

20. ELECTRO THERAPY
Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy as a medical
treatment.Electrotherapy is primarily used in physical
therapy for relaxation of muscle spasms, prevention and
retardation of disuse atrophy, increase of local blood
circulation, muscle rehabilitation and re-education
electrical muscle stimulation, maintaining and increasing
range of motion, management of chronic and intractable
pain, post-traumatic acute pain, post surgical acute pain,
immediate post-surgical stimulation of muscles to prevent
venous thrombosis, wound healing and drug delivery.

21. EXERCISE THERAPY
Exercise Therapy is a regimen or plan of physical activities
designed and prescribed for specific therapeutic goals. Its
purpose is to work towards the restoration of normal
musculoskeletal function or to reduce pain above and
below the site of injury caused by diseases or injuries
through neuro reeducation, gait training and therapeutic
activities.
There are lots of exercises for knee pain- like,
Quadriceps Ex, VMO, Muscle straching, Resistance Ex,
Assestive Ex etc.
