Granuloma venerum is a genital ulcerative disease caused by the bacterium Klebsiella granulomatis that is transmitted through sexual contact or close personal contact. It primarily affects sexually active individuals between 20-40 years old. The disease progresses through three stages, starting with red bumps or pimples that spread and erode the skin, developing into deep ulcers with foul smelling discharge in later stages. Diagnosis involves sexual history, physical exam, tissue biopsy, and culture tests. Treatment consists of a multi-week course of antibiotics like azithromycin or doxycycline until sores have fully healed.

3. Definition
• It is a genital ulcerative disease caused by
intracellular gram negative bacterium
Klebsiella granulomatis.
• It is also called as Donovanosis and Granuloma
inguinal.

4. Risk Factor
• Sexually active people,
• It mostly spread through vaginal or anal
intercourse,
• Men affects more than Women,
• 20-40 Years are at Higher risk,
• Rarely Seen in children,
• Etc.

5. Transmission
• Through Anal Sex or Oral-Anal Contact,
• Through contaminated food or water,
• Through sexual contact with infected
individual,
• Through touching or scratching of other parts
of body,
• Re infection through open wound,
• Etc.

6. C/M
• Sores in anal area,
• Bumps are usually painless,
• Slowly spread and destroys genital tissues,
• Genitals and skin around it will lose color,
• Tissue damage will spread,
• Etc.

7. Stages
• Stage 1 : pimple will occur and spread to
nearby tissues and being red, and becoming
bumps.
• Stage 2 : bacteria begin to erode the skin,
shallow ulcer will occur, foul smell will occur
from ulceration,
• Stage 3 : it will be deep and morph into scar
tissue.

• Sexual History & P/E,
• Tissue Biopsy,
• Culture of the Causative Organism,
• Lab. Test.

9. Medical Management
• Antibiotics are used to treat Donovanosis,
• Azithromycin, Doxycycline,
• Most treatment runs for 3 weeks or up to
sores completely healed.
