The three classical Greek architectural styles are described. The Doric style is sturdy with a plain capital and was used in mainland Greece and southern colonies. The Ionic style has a thinner column and scroll-like capital and was found in eastern Greece and islands. The Corinthian style has the most elaborate capital decorated with leaves and was more common in Roman architecture.
