15. Safety Certifications
60384-14
Testing is performed by recognized certification bodies, not necessarily the
manufacturer:
• Example: VDE, TUV, UL, FIMKO, IMQ
• Each certification body has the capability to
• Test and certify capacitors per the standard
• Define their marking for the capacitor
• Inspect manufacturers factory for compliance to the standard
• Certification of Safety Capacitors is the “evidence” of conforming to the standard
• Qualification packages are not needed for the customer
17. Safety Certifications
KEMET Markings
• All KEMET safety discs are marked either with ENEC and/or with the
certification body’s marking.
• Harmonization of the standards within Europe have allowed markings
by certification bodies to be equal in application
=
• Because UL is not harmonized with the European
standard, the UL marking for USA and CA is separate
• Some customers may “prefer” a VDE mark over TUV
mark due to its recognizability. Can be thought of as a
“brand”.
18. Substitution
Can you substitute one class with another?
Class Substitution1
X1 Y1 or Y2
X2 X1, Y1, or Y2
Y2 Y1
Y1 None
1Substitutions are of the same or higher voltage rating
