Q&A with National LGBT Leader Bob Witeck
1. What do you do for a living?
I am a lifelong communicator, writer and counselor. I’ve served as a Senate press secretary, and
worked at a global PR firm, however, beginning in 1993, I have led my own communications firm
specializing in LGBT business and market strategies. I’m proud to be the first LGBT-owned PR firm
certified by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
2. Why do you care about the mission of the VGLCC?
I am a native Virginian and graduate of the University of Virginia. I could not be prouder of Virginia’s
historic contributions and place in the world. I passionately believe, however, that until and unless
Virginia leads on inclusion and equality in the workplace, in the marketplace and in society, we can
never be truly competitive global leader. Our economy and our aspirations depend on the mission of
the VGLCC to build a 21st Century Commonwealth that welcomes all people and all talents including
lesbians and gay men, bisexuals and transgender people.
3. How do you think corporations, small businesses and working professionals can benefit from
joining the VGLCC?
The VGLCC is a crossroads for everyone who believes that opportunity is built on shared values,
trust, ingenuity, innovation and hard work – and I’d add one more idea, friendships. If the VGLCC
succeeds, many of us will be wide-eyed participants, not just observers, to creating jobs, starting and
growing businesses, and expanding options for our entire economy. What could be more promising
than that?
Bob Witeck is the President of Witeck Communications, Inc., which the National Gay &
Lesbian Chamber of Commerce has certified as an LGBT Business Enterprise. He is also a
VGLCC Advisory Council Member, a Member of the Governor’s LGBT Tourism Task Force
and the Business Editor of Unite Virginia Magazine.
Established in 2014 and launching in 2015, the VGLCC seeks to diversify and strengthen Virginia’s economy by uniting the
Commonwealth’s LGBT business community and integrating that dynamic demographic into the broader marketplace. Through the
guiding principles of advocacy, collaboration and education, the VGLCC aims to promote economic equality by serving as the nonpartisan
voice of Virginia’s LGBT entrepreneurs, innovators, job creators and their allies. In short, the VGLCC’s objective is to effectively weave the
story of the LGBT community into the evolving narrative of Virginia’s diverse 21st century economy.
