1. Expert Impartial Decision Makers!
NSW | Medical Assessors
The NSW Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) leads and supports the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance scheme that aims to minimise the human impact of motor accidents.
Since 1999 the MAA have appointed a panel of independent expert Medical Assessors to determine medical disputes between claimants and insurers about treatment and
permanent impairment. These decisions are binding on the parties and the courts.
The current term of appointment for Medical Assessors is nearing its end, and the MAA is calling for applications from all interested doctors, dentists and allied health professionals
seeking to be appointed to its panel of Medical Assessors for the next term which will end in June 2013. All current (2007-2010) Medical Assessors need to apply for appointment
for the new term.
If you believe you have the skills and abilities to independently assess medical disputes in a fair, timely and impartial manner in a well recognised, well supported and personally
rewarding area and you would like to make a valuable contribution to the people of NSW, then you should consider applying.
Appointment as a Medical Assessor is not a full time commitment and undertaking this part time role would allow you to continue clinical practice, which is encouraged and
preferred by the MAA.
Whilst the MAA is looking to appoint Medical Assessors from across a broad range of clinical specialties (a full list is available at the application web site), some areas of specific
need include;
• Adult and Paediatric Brain Injury • Dermatology • General Paediatrics • Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Adult and Paediatric Psychiatry • Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery • Geriatric Medicine • Plastic Surgery
• Clinical Psychology • Endocrinology
