To Whom it May Concern
I am delighted to write this letter of support for Julie Perry. I taught high school science
at Clear Lake High School for many years, and in that position I observed numerous
substitute teachers. Without a doubt, Julie was the most effective. When it became school
policy for us to procure our own substitutes, Julie was first on my call list. It was crucial to
contact her as quickly as possible or the chances were good that she would have already
been snapped up by another teacher.
Julie would carry out the lesson plan that I left her to the letter, and I was confident that
the students would be actively working on the assignment. This was true for the top classes,
such as Chemistry and Physics, as well as the lower level classes such as Freshman Earth
Science. When Julie was in charge I knew that the instructions were clear, and students had
no excuses for misunderstanding their assignments. I was also confident that she would have
their respect, and that there would be no disciplinary issues that Julie could not take care of in
a professional manner and according to school policy.
When I informed students that I would be absent, they often would ask who my
substitute would be. Sometimes there would be groans and complaints when I told them, but
never with Julie. They enjoyed having her as a substitute, and they knew that class would
operate as usual, with no problems or disruptions. She had a rapport with students and
earned their respect with a quiet but firm touch.
Julie worked at our school so often that she was a regular in the staff room at lunch
time. All of the teachers got to know her and like her, and she was treated like a permanent
part of our teaching staff. I can't imagine a more competent, professional and effective
substitute than Julie, and it is my pleasure to endorse her without reservation. If you have
