This document summarizes the Go Green Initiative (GGI), which aims to form a network of young climate change leaders between Sweden and Africa. The initiative will provide training and tools to students and volunteers to conduct free energy surveys for local businesses. A digital platform will provide customized recommendations to businesses to reduce energy and water usage. The goals are to educate communities about climate change, stimulate practical solutions, and form an extensive knowledge network while giving students hands-on experience. Success will be measured by the number of participants and recommendations provided to businesses each year.
3. EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
• The effects of climate change are widely regarded by humankind as
the single greatest threat of our time for the survival of mankind
and our planet. From the onset of the Industrial Revolution more
than two centuries ago, there has been a consistent increased in
volumes of greenhouse gases primarily derived from the burning of
fossil fuels and other unsustainable activities from human
interactions with the environment. These unsustainable human
practices is now causing rising temperatures around the globe. The
resultant climate change is believed to have some drastic effects on
our society, with rising sea levels and more extreme weather
patterns among other things, and we have probably only seen the
beginning of this change. Increasingly, it has also been recognized
that we need to achieve sustainable development to slow climate
change down.
4. GO GREEN INITIATIVE
• Go Green initiative (GGI) is an extension of a
New Leadership Initiative Network focusing on
the understanding of climate change to
stimulate learning about the persistent danger
of climate change, focusing on the science of
how climate change occurs, the impact on the
environment and human development, and
practical and innovative solutions to address
the causes of climate change while meeting
the needs of the world.
5. KEY PLAYERS IN THE INITIATIVE
• This project is meant to form a network of
young climate change advocacy leaders,
students, volunteers, organizations, small
businesses and interested individuals between
Sweden and Africa to actively engage
communities in climate change mitigation to
reduce the impact of actions that affect
human environment.
6. HOW THE PROJECT WORKS
• Students and volunteers will be provided with
training and cloud-based tools to conduct free
energy surveys for local, and small businesses
in their communities. A digital communication
channel will be set up with a pedagogical
program/webpage to provide businesses and
local communities with custom, actionable
recommendations from the free energy
surveys to reduce their energy and water
usage.
7. OPPORTUNITIES AND RISKS
• Opportunities
This project focus will provide communities with knowledge of, and practical experience in applying a
framework for strategic sustainable development and working collaboratively with others using a common
language and definition of environmental sustainability to achieve long-term outcome in protecting the
environment, and creating an extensive knowledge and network in climate change mitigation.
Communities, individuals and businesses will be able to advocate for a just climate by applying the
recommendations from the project findings, and interlink all aspects of our society based on a strategic
understanding of climate change on our universe.
Students and volunteers gain professional skills and hands-on experience relevant to future green careers
This project will reduce the environmental impact of businesses on the planet and better equipping the
next generation of climate leaders.
It will also enable a shared vision of future success by constantly brainstorming creative ideas to move
from the current environmental reality towards future success.
The online platform will reduce time and space by allowing participants to participate anywhere, and
allow project coordinators to add learning material the moment a new finding about climate change and
related effects are found.
8. OPPORTUNITIES AND RISKS
• Risks
Coordination might be a setback because of
diverse participation as regards to knowledge
and backgrounds of participants
More resources might be needed to span the
project as required
Students might only volunteer during holidays
9. HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
• Number of participants engaged in the project
each year (increase)
• Number of recommendations sorted out to
businesses every year (increase)
10. END OF PRESENTATION
“IDEAS ARE LIKE BIODIVERSITY THAT NEED TO BE
CONSERVED IN ORDER NOT TO GET EXTINCT,
BECAUSE THEY NEED TO BE DISCOVERED AND
HARNESSED TO KNOW THEIR VALUES TO
HUMAN EXISTENCE”.
