Here are the key strengths and weaknesses of your research methods:
Product research:
Strengths - Gave insight into common design elements and storytelling techniques used in existing zombie media.
Weaknesses - Limited to visual analysis, didn't provide context around story, characters, etc.
Questionnaires:
Strengths - Gathered quantitative data on audience preferences and opinions. Easy to distribute online.
Weaknesses - Limited to single choice answers, didn't allow for explanations. Sample size may have been small.
Interviews:
Strengths - Provided qualitative insights into audience motivations and reasoning behind preferences.
Weaknesses - Small sample size, responses may not represent full audience. Required more effort than surveys
2. EXISTING PRODUCT
Poster, telltale games, frontwards angle, used lighting in
the background to make it look more eye catchy, used
positioning of the characters at front to keep the focus
on them, made the expressions of the characters faces
to show that the girl is the protector of the boy to get
and insider about the story, the use of the zombies
symbolizes the danger they are in and emphasizes the
protector in what is happening, as it’s the final season
the poster looks like a final stand from the characters.
This brings attention towards it as it makes you wonder
what is going to happen to the character as they
continue. The audience looks like 16+ as it includes
zombies and from the axe contains violence so is not
child friendly. By it saying final season means that there
was previous and that the characters have been
developed and people have an understanding of who
they are. Bringing a zombie into the foreground
symbolizes that there isn't a lot of time left as they are
getting closer.
3. EXISTING PRODUCT
Giving the 4 a blood splat behind it gives it
the violent feel and makes it know its not for
children. The effect of using blacked out
images of the people is good to give the
characters mystery as you never know what
they can do. The use of the background being
old and rundown could foreshadow how the
story is going to end or how life it now with
the zombie apocalypse. The title Left 4 Dead
gives the feel of fear as its every man for
themselves. Putting weapons in their hands
shows that they have experience and are
prepared for the worst. Showing that it is the
second one shows that these characters
could have survived for a very long time
showing that anything can happen. The
background gives this golden/greeny glow
that you would mostly see when the sun is
rising, this gives connotations that the
zombies are rising and like the sun will
always come back
4. EXISTING PRODUCT
The comic book style is used in its classic style
to symbolize it’s a comic book and you expect
what it looks like. The use of the text bubbles
give us a depth look at how they are feeling.
Bright colours are used to make the combat
visually pleasing. There is no background that
has been used to make the main focus on the
combat and nothing else. When there isn't
combat most colours are dull to symbolize what
the world is like. Not using to many zombies to
make the group of people seem more heroic than
they actually are and not crowding the focus of
combat with too many of them. The lighting of the
shots make the guns show impact when shooting
making the reader more interested.
5. EXISTING PRODUCT
Showing the background gives an insider of what life is like after the zombie apocalypse,
showing that nothing has been taken care of and ruined/ run down. Showing the two characters
give us though that the male is a father figure towards the girl. Giving them guns shows that they
are prepared but the look on the girls face shows that she doesn't really know what to do giving a
different view in the situations and not knowing what is going to happen next. The lighting of the
sun in the back is giving hope that the characters will survive, using the saying “ there is light at
the end of the tunnel” may show foreshadowing of things get better. This poster art also gives the
same golden/greeny glow also symbolizing the sun rising giving connotations that the undead is
always rising
6. EXISTING PRODUCT
The use of the lighting in the house shows that there is
characters that are being attacked by the zombies, this
shows that they are scared and unprepared on what to
do. The use of the font gives a run down and ruined
feel as if zombies have destroyed the text, this makes
the movie seem like there is no more hope for the
characters. The use of the slogan “there is a fate worse
than death” shows that a zombie apocalypse is the
scariest outcome that can happen, this brings up the
terror of zombies as people thing death is the worse
thing that can ever happen. The use of tons of zombies
show that they are endless and will not stop. The use
of the only house shows that the zombies wont leave
and you can escape, this gives the film more horror as
the zombie are only making one outcome possible. All
posters have in common a golden/greeny glow giving
the sun rise affect. Them all giving this affect makes the
connotations of zombies always rising a symbol of truth
throughout all these stories

23. AUDIENCE PROFILE

is not suitable towards anyone under the
age of 16

25. RESEARCH EVALUATION
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
• Product Research
Going through products gave a good understanding on what the media use in
their poster and inside pages of comic books. This gives me an understanding of
how to layout my project. However as it was only a poster it didn’t show any
storyline therefore it was difficult to see how the media play out and how it ends.
• Questionnaires
The questionnaires was helpful as it showed in zombie media what people like to
see. This helps towards my project cause I now know what to add to appeal
towards them. However as it was only a one answer question I couldn't’t get a
reason towards why they chose it therefore not being able to add from my project
and make it better.
• Interviews
26. RESEARCH EVALUATION
• What sort of a response did you get?
The response was very mixed opinion with a few becoming the popular
answer, people gave good connotations of zombies and has helped see
what people enjoy which helps towards my zombie comic.
• How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a
disadvantage
As it was just a tick box it was very easy for viewers to give an answer
to help towards my project. A disadvantage is that you couldn’t give a
reason on why for the question so it is difficult to get an understanding
on what it was that makes them choose their choice.
