1. Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2.
3. • SlideShare
• Firefox
• Google
• YouTube
• Photoshop
• Final-Cut Pro
• Microsoft Word
• PowerPoint
• Cannon Camera
• Apple Mac Computer
• Blogger
• Pinterest
• Gmail
• Hotmail
• Kingston memory stick
The previous slide displays all the technology
we used in producing our advanced portfolio
in media. Some technologies were more vital
to our work than others, but all played an
important role in the development of our
work. An example of a piece of equipment
that we felt was extremely important was
Blogger, this technology enabled us to display
all of our work clearly in one place, with easy
navigation around the different pages, making
it much easier for our work to be viewed.
Furthermore Blogger tracked the date and
time we uploaded work accurately, enabling
the development on our blog to be easily
viewed.
4. Research
• Various different technologies and programs were used when developing the research
page for our advanced portfolio in media blog. The research page involved mainly
Microsoft programs as the work was mostly word based rather than editing programs.
• We found that Microsoft Word was very simple to use and could be shared on our
blog by Slide Share. Slide Share lets individuals share their Microsoft documents
online publically, these can be embedded to different web pages. We chose to embed
the documents we shared onto our advanced portfolio in media.
• We found that Blogger was an easy to use technology, letting individuals create
personal online spaces about different subjects. We particularly liked how the site was
free of charge and easy to navigate around the site
• For certain tasks such as we were forced to use more complicated programs such as
Photoshop. This was due to the fact that Photoshop gives off a very professional look
to work unlike other standard programs we used for alternative tasks.
• When completing the analysis tasks in the development of my research page, I chose
to embed the video I was analysing into the post. I was able to do this by copying the
video embed code from YouTube.com, then pasting it into the HTTP section of the
post. This was a great advantage for me as it meant viewers could view what I was
analysing immediately, without needing to search for the video themselves
5. Planning
• Par one task, we chose to stick with using Microsoft word when developing our planning page. This
is because the tasks set for the planning page consisted of only writing and including different
images, therefore not needing the assistance of advanced programs such as Final Cut.
• To create our company logo, we chose to use Photoshop as this enables you to get a professional
look to designs. Although this program is very effective, it can be very tricky if you have little
knowledge of using the program.
• To take the images we included in the planning stage of our porfolio we chose to use the Cannon
650d camera. The reason we chose to use this particular camera was because it produced a crisp
and clear image as well as being very easy to use. Due to the camera being such high quality, we
decided to use it for the filming of our music video.
• To access these programs we used the College Macs, this was our choice as the machines have a
large screen, meaning it is easier to see the work you are producing. Also the Macs are
exceptionally fast when multiple programs are open at the same time in comparison to alternative
machines we could have used.
6. Construction
• For our construction page we used programs that were relatively challenging to use. These included
Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. Although these programs were difficult to use at first, as we
completed more tasks we seemed to grasp the concept of the programs, becoming familiar with
the how they work. The programs meant we could get a professional look on our Digipak, advert
and video, all free of charge. The programs were made better by the use of the Macs due to them
being fast and being fast even with multiple programs open.
• Final Cut was used when editing our music video, the program let us add various effects that
improved the look of our video drastically. One of these effects we used was a time lapse. This
transformed the clip we took for around 5 minutes of a motorway into a seven second video by
speeding it up 100x. This gives the effect that the cars are travelling at around 500mph, looking
surreal. As well as being able to include clips to final cut, we were able to include the track we were
making a video for. This meant we could make the lip synching as smooth as possible.
• When producing our animatic we also used Final Cut Pro, this was because we were able to include
images to a backing track and add different effects. The fact that we had used Final Cut Pro a
number of times in the development of our Advanced Portfolio In Media, meant that we were now
familiar with the setting and options the program had to offer, getting the most out of it for out
video.
• The Camera we used for our video, digipak and advert was the Cannon 650d, a professional DSLR
camera. This enabled us to get a a crisp image as we we could adjust the focus until we felt the
photo was the clearest it could be.
