1. THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
IN IDENTIFYING AND CALLING
LEADERS IN THE CHURCH
2. • While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting the holy spirit said,
set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called
them. Acts 13: 2
• So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas and Mathias.
Then they prayed, Lord you know everyone's heart. Show us which of
these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry which
Judas left to go where he belongs. Then they cast lots and the lot fell t
Mathias, so he was added to the eleven apostles Acts 1: 23 - 26

making
• Leaders who lead without the holy spirit are like ship captains without
a compass.
• They can make their best guesses but they have no assurance that
they are heading the right way
• Psalm 118:8 – it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in
humans
4. Examples of people God prepared for
leadership

• Moses – Moses was raised to take the Israelites to the promised land
and to take them from slavery
• Jesus – Jesus came to die to save mankind
• Peter – the church was built on Peter
