1. Cuauhtemoc Cardenas urged granting autonomy to state oil company Pemex
In Mexico, Cuauhtemoc Cardenas, founder of the PRD, on Monday proposed giving
more autonomy to state oil company Pemex, instead of opening the oil industry to
private investment.
Cardenas said Pemex should be a public company with budgetary autonomy and less
management and union representation on its board, and insists on leaving the industry
in state hands.
For his part, the president's proposal Enrique Peña Nieto allow private companies have
shared utility contracts, without transferring ownership of oil, which remains the country.
The initiative calls for constitutional reform as an article prohibits granting concessions
or contracts to individuals, in exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons.
