The Gutapuri River in Colombia has been affected by droughts and human activities like construction contracts, water usage for sanitation and human needs, and deforestation. Construction contracts have been taking water from the river without limits, reducing its levels. Farming and construction activities have also been diverting the river's natural water flow. Deforestation at the river's source has additionally lowered water levels. In response, organizations are working to manage risks to the river by obtaining information on water usage and effects through monitoring projects. The government is also studying building a dam near the river's source to increase resilience to droughts, but has not taken action yet due to investment costs.
