On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, the Department of Public Health, Waterbury Lead
Safe and Healthy Homes hosted a one-day Renovating, Repairing, or Painting (RRP)
Seminar, at Connecticut Kaynor Technical High School, located in Waterbury
Connecticut. 22 high school students were in attendance at the Seminar. Kaynor
Technical is part of the Connecticut Technical High School System. The Seminar was
conducted by Ronald J. Passaro Jr. President of Envirotech Inc. Providing, environmental
services based out of Fairfield County. Mr. Passaro’s company specializes in Geo-probing
commercial and residential (soil sampling). Amongst other key and very important
environmental services, the company also performs and mold inspections/remediation, as
well as lead paint testing/XRF (non-destructive).
The RRP training course described in the seminar is designed to help individuals
and in this case, students, attain the required qualifications needed to conform to the
standards, set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and perform work
within the Renovating,
Repairing, or Painting
fields. The course
facilitates the student
registrants, such as

of Kaynor Tech High School, the ability to have marketableskills helping them in their
transition into the workforce after their high school graduation. The aforementioned

students will be RRP Certified post high school graduation and upon completion of all
certifying requirements for the RRP certification as set forth by local and state
regulations. During the seminar, Envirotech’s President Ronald J. Passaro Jr. covered
basic knowledge about the exciting field of renovating, repairing or painting.
Mr. Passaro demonstrated basic techniques to the students would learn in preparation to
perform duties of the trade.

Also in attendance was Mr. Henry Wheelahan,
Plumbing Teacher, and Plumbing and Heating - Department
Head at Connecticut Dept. Ed Kaynor Tech High School.
The mission of Waterbury Lead and Healthy Homes is to create and foster a
healthy and safe home environment, by reducing housing-related health disparities and
improve the Public Health in the Greater Waterbury Area.
