  • 46. I don’t- 2I chose to ask this question to give an idea of what current magazines are most appealing to a younger target audience. The most popular answer was Nme magazine with 5, whereas the least popular were Rolling Stone and Q magazine with 0. This is what I expected to find as Nme targets a younger audience with bright colours and colloquial language. Whereas Q and Rolling Stone has a slightly more mature target audience and covers more established, well known bands.
  • 47. Question 2 “How much would you spend on a magazine?” £0- 2 £0.01-1.99- 3 £2.00-3.99- 5 £4.00-5.99- 0 £6+- 0 I chose to question the price other students were willing to spend on an individual magazine. I was surprised to find 0 would pay less than £2 despite the average student having a tight budget. However the most popular price range was £2.00-3.99, this is quite expensive showing how people are prepared to spend more for a higher quality magazine. My results also showed no-one was prepared to spend in excess of £4, I found this understandable as it appears a lot for a magazine to cost.
  • 48. Question 3 “What music festival is most appealing?” Reading and Leeds- 6 V- 2 Wireless- 0 Glastonbury- 1 Other- 1 I chose this question as it gives a good insight into the atmosphere people enjoy music in and also what range of music they prefer. Unsurprisingly, the most popular answer was reading and leeds festival this shows rock music as a popular genre. However this result may be bias as reading is the most local festival. The other options convey a range of results, this highlights how there is a good range of opinions amongst the people I collected data from.
  • 49. Question 4 “What is your favourite genre of music?” Rock- 5 Pop- 2 Grime- 0 RnB- 0 Other- 2 I chose to ask the students favourite genre to determine which is most popular and should be featured most in my music magazine. Rock recieved 5 votes making it the most popular answer, this was expected as it is so diverse it includes appealing features for a large audience. Grime and RnBrecieved 0 votes this was an interesting vote as it displays a lot about the people I collected data from. Although being new genres it appeared unpopular amongst a young audience.
  • 50. Question 5 “Would you rather purchase CD or download music?” CD-2 Download- 8 No preference- 0 I chose to ask this question to see whether new technology is more appealing to a younger audience. This theory was correct as 8 out of 10 people preferred to download instead of purchase music. This is due to new technology such as iPods and MP3 players, making music easily accessible. As the majority of young people own this sort of new technology owning CD has become out of date and unnecessary.
  • 51. Question 6 “How much do you spend on music magazines per month?” 0- 2 0.00-4.99- 4 5.00-9.99- 3 10+- 1 I chose to ask how much people would be willing to spend on music magazines monthly as it shows the intrigue young people have in them and also if a range of music magazine are purchased as they are usually issued monthly. The most popular range was £0-4.00 this conveys that the mean number of magazine bought each month is just one or two. However 4 people said that they pay £5+ on music magazines monthly. This highlights there interest in them and that they purchase a range of magzines.
  • 52. Question 7 “How do you listen to music?” iPod- 6 Computer- 1 Radio- 3 TV- 0 This question gives insight into where people listen to their music. The most popular answer was via an iPod, this is what i expected from the young audience i questioned. This is most popular as it allows you to listen to your own selected music at any time you want. The second most popular answer was radio, this would suggest that they listen to music whilst in the car or at home/work. Interestingly no-one chose TV, i believe this was because you cannot be on the move.
  • 53. Question 8 “How do you watch music?” TV- 7 Internet- 3 Other- 0 Question 8 was chosen to determine where people view music videos/how often music videos are watched. It would appear that the majority of people do not view videos often as the most popular answer here was television. Whereas question 7 shows that only 3 out of 10 people watch music on television often. Also television and the internet where the only two platforms that were chosen to view music videos.
  • 54. Question 9 “Who is your favourite band/artist?” Lady Gaga-1 Beyonce-0 Jay Z-2 N Dubz-0 Chase and Status-3 Pendulum-1 Prodigy-1 Kasbian-0 Mumford and Sons-1 My Chemical Romance-0 Metallica-1 I chose to ask this question to find which specific bands were the most popular. The band that received the most votes was Chase and Status this is unsurprising as they are under the Dubstep genre which is new and very popular with young people. Pendulum and prodigy fall under a similar category however were slightly less popular perhaps due to their mainstream authority.

  • 57. Retail websites-2I chose to ask this question to find out what my audience viewed the most whilst online. As I expected to find the majority of people spend most of the time on social networking sites. With this in mind i can incorporate that into my magazine, and even set up a page for my magazine on one of the sites e.g. FaceBook. Furthermore a few people use retail websites this is important as I can base my advertising around that.
  • 58. Find your tribe My audience result came out as “clubber” i feel this is appropriate as i do like this particular genre of music. I will include this is my magazine, however I also enjoy a vast range of music and wouldn’t put myself into a particular category. Therefore other music genre’s will be included in my magazine.
