2. The 80s: Society
The 80s was an era of very rapid population
growth. Arguably the fastest population growth
in human history. This may have indirectly
caused a need to branch out to different genres
of music to appeal to the various audiences
thanks to the remarkable population of Earth.
3. The 80s: Fashion
The early years of the 80s continued with late
70s styled fashion. By the end of the 80s
however, fashion evolved into “Heavy Metal”
fashion. Teased hair, ripped jeans and neon
clothing were all significant fashion trends and
this all started with someone with a microphone
who want to be different than all the rest.
4. The 80s: Technology
Some of the technology with a profound impact
on the music industry were invented in the late
70s. Walkman WM-D6Cs and boomboxes are 2
great examples of this. As well as Musical
Instrument Digital Interface or MIDI that made it
easier to integrate synthesizers and other
electronic instruments for composing music.
5. The 90s: Society
The 90s represented the continuity of social
liberalization for a majority of countries. This,
coupled with the increase in influence of
capitalism would continue to the great recession
of the late 2000s.
6. The 90s: Fashion
Fashion took a massive turn between the
decades, it left its ethereal choices behind for a
more minimalistic approach to style. It wasn’t
impossible to find men and women in scrappy
outfits, albeit, it would not be common finding
someone who thinks they’re a werewolf.
7. The 90s: Technology
By August 6th 1991. A Central European
Organization for Nuclear Research called CERN
publicized the “World Wide Web” Project. The
guidelines and applications existed almost two
decades before, but only in the 90s did it get a
public face. This would allow people to share
stuff across the newly constructed internet,
music was no exception to that.
