Reflection
I tookan interestinanatomymanyyearsago, buthad limitedexperience ineducation.Iwasintroduced
to higherlevel learninginCollege andIbecame evenmore interestedinanatomy.Once acceptedtothe
bridge semesterof GuelphHumberUniversity,Iwasexcitedtoknow thatour anatomyclasshad a
practical componentat a cadaverlab usingreal specimens.Itooka keeninterestinthisaswe couldsee
actual anatomyinsteadof perfecttextbookrenderings.Itooksuchan interestthatI decidedtotry a
placementatthat verylab, hopingtodo my owndissection.Iwasable tobe placedthere anddecided
to do a dissectionof backmuscles.Iwasquickto learnas I dove rightinwithoutmuchguidance,Ihad
previousexperience asabutch soI was able to transferthose skillstodissecting.Iwasmetwitha few
obstacles, the firstbeingthe separationof the latissimusdorsi fromthe serratusposteriorinferior. This
was a verytedioustask, the muscle tissue of the serratusposteriorinferiorwasextremelyfragile and
the tendonseemedtobe fusedwiththe more superficial tendonof the latissimusdorsi.Althoughthis
task wasdifficult,Itookmytime andmanagedto overcome thisobstacle.Thisgave me hope and
confidence thatIwouldbe able tocomplete mydissectionwithgoodtime andquality.Uponcompletion
of the whole dissection, mysupervisoradvisedme thatI dida great job, well enoughthatthisspecimen
will be usedtoteach3rd
and 4th
yearanatomystudents. Iam grateful thatI, the firstGuelph-Humber
representative tobe placedatthe GuelphUniversityanatomylab,have deliveredqualityworkthatwill
showcase GuelphHumberstudentpotential.
