1. Teacher Professional
Development
The Utilization of Web 2.0 to Further Education
By Jonathan Bell
2. Why is Professional Development
Necessary?
It keeps teachers up to date
with the newest trends in
technology and teaching
methods.
It gives teachers a chance to
brainstorm uses of these
new technologies and
methods
It creates a congruent
practice across the board
within the school.
3. How Effective is Professional Development?
A stand-alone workshop
has less than a 5%
chance of changing how
teachers teach.
Without follow-up or on-
going support, its often
very difficult to
implement new ideas.
4. How can Web 2.0 make Professional
Development more effective?
Web 2.0 programs can
provide:
On-going professional
development
Learning communities
where teachers can
interact and share ideas
Allow for support from
coaches and
administrative staff
5. How Effective can Professional Development
be with these additions?
Utilizing these
opportunities can truly
affect teaching
practices and increase
learning to nearly 90%
The more effectively
teachers learn, the
greater their ability to
pass that learning onto
their students as an
entire staff.
