CORRECTING
THE BITE
Jaw surgery can be used to help
correct bite fit and make biting
and chewing easier. It can also
help prevent the teeth from be-
coming excessively damaged or
worn and fix jaw closure issues.
CORRECTING IMBAL-
ANCES AND DEFECTS
Asymmetry such as overbites,
underbites, cross bites and
small chins can be corrected
using jaw surgery. It can also
help ensure the lips can close
properly.
Orthognathic surgery can also
help some patients with birth
defects or be used to repair a
facial injury.
SPEECH AND SLEEP
APNOEA
In some cases, jaw surgery may-
be recommended as part of the
treatment for sleep apnoea or
to correct issues with speech or
swallowing.
PAIN RELIEF
Patients experiencing pain from
jaw problems such as temporo-
mandibular joint disorder may be
recommended for jaw surgery.
