1.Introduction
This is the final project of Elements of Natural and Built Environment. Our
lecturers had sent us an important message which is based on this project.
According to this project, the current city is not safe to live in (apocalypse). So, the
FNBE students are required to use their strategies and ideas to rebuild a new ‘X’ city
which is livable to sustain the city which is in apocalypse. It is also important to
understand the factors of apocalypse, what makes the city no longer to live. We are
required to illustrate and sketch the layout of their cities and show to our lectures.
They will give us some comments and suggestions to let us make improvements on
our city. Besides, we need to do more research on the cities, such as ancient cities,
present cities and future cities which can give us some inspirations and new ideas to
build our cities. There are some important steps to build a good city, such as
planning efficient road and drainage systems, arranging the zoning area of the city,
building a good infrastructure facilities which can provide a lot of convenience to the
residents. This is a challenging and brainstorming project, we need to prepare well.

Mohenjo-Daro is an ancient city which was located in Pakistan. It was the
world’s earliest major urban settlements. Mohenjo-Daro was abandoned in the 19th
century BCE, and was not rediscovered until 1922. Besides, it was one of the largest
cities of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization (Harappan Civilization). This city was
lacks ostentatious palaces, temples or monuments. The city’s wealth and stature is
evident in artifacts such as ivory, lapis, carnelian and gold beads, as well as the
baked-brick structures themselves. Mohenjo-daro was the most advanced city of its
time with outstanding sophisticated civil engineering and urban planning. Mohenjo-
Daro was abandoned when Indus civilization went into sudden decline around 1900
BCE.
Mohenjo-Daro has a planned layout based on a street grid of rectinlinear
buildings. Most of the buildings and facilities were made by mud brick and wooden
superstructure. The city is divided into two parts, the so called- Citadel and the
Lower City. It has a large residential structure which was designed to house 5000
citizens and two large assembly halls. Furthermore, there was a central marketplace
with a large central well. Mohenjo-Daro has a ‘Great Granary”. It did not have circuit
of city walls but was otherwise well fortified, with guard towers.
Information or element that you can use to
your new future city
After doing the research on Mohenjo-Daro, I learned that
the grid system in the Mohenjo-Daro is very efficient and
easy to get the directions. Besides, I knew that the water
supply system in Mohenjo-Daro is good enough to supply
water to every area of the city. I am considering to use
these elements to my new future city. I think they are useful
and give advantages to my city.

Information or element that you can use to
your new future city.
After doing a research on Paris, I
learned that Paris has great grid
system which can connect to all area
of Paris. It is easy to get to the
destination easily. Traffic jam is not a
problem to Paris city. Eiffel tower is
the landmark of Paris. It is good that I
can put a landmark at the center of
my city. The people will get to know
their direction.

Future Cities
Masdar City
Masdar city is a planned city which is located at Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab
Emirates. It is designed by British architectural firm Foster and Partners and
engineering and environmental. At first glance, the parched landscape of Abu Dhabi
looks like the craziest place to build any city, let alone a sustainable one. Masdar will
be home to about 50,000 people, at least 1,000 businesses and a university.
Besides, Masdar will employ a variety of renewable power resources. This project is

supported by the global conversation charity World Wide Fund for Nature and the
sustainability group Bioregional. The US government also supports this project and
sign a partnership agreement with the Masdar to support plans on zero-carbon cities.
It is also considered by many have the most ambitious targets of any eco-city plan.
About the middle of 2010, a rash of news articles announced that Masdar was
faltering a bit. The master plan of the Masdar is changing the world economy. The
streets of the Masdar is pedestrian-only with pilotless vehicles running via magnets
and fibre–optic cables. The technology of the Masdar city is very advancing
comparing to other cities.

The Plan of the Venessy City
In 2028,scientist in our
country (Malaysia) had
estimated the temperature
in our world is going wrong
and gradually increase.
When the temperature of
the world is increasing, the
ice berg which locates at

Artic & Antarctic are almost completely melted. Melting of ice berg cause the
increasing of sea level and the land will be submerged by sea water. So, the
land is not livable anymore.
So, scientists of Malaysia send this important message to the city construction
industry for planning to build a new city that can livable in future. Then,
architects are planning to build a city under the water. The underwater city is
under 5 year construction to complete. The name of this underwater city is
Venessy.
The layout of Venessy City .The
geometrical shape of the Venessy is
based on the combination of the shape of
hurricane and circle. The 4 main roads of
the city is inspired by the pattern of the
hurricane, like turning into the centre point.
The centre point will be the city centre of
Venessy.
Why choose Venessy
as the city’s name?
Before naming my city, I had do some
research about the name of the
underwater city to make sure which kind of
name is suitable for my city. I saw Lynosse
( one of the underwater city) which is from
a poem called War Gods of the Deep. I think Lynosse is a unique name and sounds
like ‘aqua’ things ( thing which is suitable for underwater city). Then I try to modify it

by changing the Lynosse to Venessy. Both of them sounds similar and I think the
name is elegance for a city. Lastly, I choose Venessy as my city’s name.
The interesting part of Venessy
Every cities must be have their own specialty which is interesting. The agriculture of
Venessy is quite interesting because a lot of agriculture technologies are used up to
produce high quality products and crops. Technologies which are used up are
windmills, water sprinkler and solar panel.
Solar panel which is located at upper part of the city
provides solar energy to the crops to carry out
photosynthesis.
The water sprinklers which are used in the agriculture area
provides water to the crops to make sure the crops do not
wilt and stay healthy. The crops are very important to
Venessy because, the quality of crops will affect the
income of the city. The balance of economy will be
affected.

Windmill are used to mild the grains for food
productions. Besides, it can make the agriculture area
more windy and cool. Crops need a wet and cool
surrounding to grow
The Technologies of Venessy
Water turbine which transfer water to power
stations to generate electricity to Venessy
Oxygen converters which are located at the upper
part of Venessy converts water into oxygen gas.

Conclusion
Through this final project, I had learned a lot of things about the urban planning. It is
not easy to build a city, we need to brainstorming and think about what is necessary
for a city such as zoning, transport system, water supply system and etc. I learned
that a good city needs a sustainability and livability. To let people to stay in your city,
we need to provide a lot of conveniences and infrastructures to the people for
providing them an easy life. Urban planning is challenging but fun. From now, I know
more about how the system in the city progressing. City is very important to me.
