Can we observe student social and emotional skills (e.g. grit, leadership, curiosity) through
behaviors in online learning environments? Do these behaviors predict course outcomes? Are
these patterns consistent across student demographic & educational preparedness factors?

Collaborative Research: Stealth Assessment of SE Skills w/Learning Analytics

  1. Findings: Slightly above-average results on “resilience”, lower than average results in leadership and curiosity. Grit scores for female students shifted to the right in the graph, which indicate higher scores for these students. Consistent with national findings.
