2. Implementing
sustainable
dairy supply
chains
Promar worked on a
collaborative project to
produce a carbon
footprint for the milk
suppliers to a major UK
supermarket.
As well as working on the
pilot exercise to footprint
suppliers, Promar have
provided advice and
presentations to suppliers
and the supermarket
regarding the key factors
influencing the dairy
supply chain footprint.
Farm-level
carbon
footprinting
Promar worked with a
major UK university to
test a tool based on a
pilot methodology
produced for the
European Commission
and the Joint Research
Council.
Promar tested the tool
across beef, sheep, dairy
and arable enterprises,
and documented the
farmers’ views on the
usability of the tool and
options of greenhouse
gas mitigation at these
sites.
International
greenhouse
gas reporting
Promar developed a
recording and analysis
system to assess the
global greenhouse gas
footprint of a multinational
plc, including Carbon
Trust verification of our
animal-related emissions
calculator.
This assessed the footprint
of operations from 25
countries worldwide,
including offices,
laboratories and livestock
farms ranging from small
units to major installations
housing over 35,000
animals.
Assessments included the
wider impacts of travel
and distribution of people,
animals and materials; as
well as reviewing the
varying impacts of
electrical generation in
different countries.
Resource
efficiency
audits
Promar have recently
completed 375 resource
efficiency audits for
businesses, providing
cost benefit
recommendations to
aid successful
implementation of
actions.
Promar have also
provided advice on the
feasibility of small-scale
renewable energy
schemes including solar,
hydropower, wind power
and anaerobic digestion.
