and computers. This is because of the development of ICT.
Through this development and advancement in ICT it
brought great impact to our society and in our everyday
life it has also a very good impact which makes our life
more easier and convenient.

• With communicating, we make use of
different channels to convey and/or
exchange information. Imagine a typical
day in your life as a Senior High School
Student. Identify and list down five (5)
different kinds of media that you use in
order to communicate information. The
first one is done for you

• Of the list that you have enumerated
in your activity, which media provider
did you spend the most time? And
what role does this media provider
play in your life as a SHS student?
So, what is Media anyway?
Media refers to various channels of
communication between a person or persons and their
intended audience. Television, radio, newspapers and
the internet are different types of Media. One of the
oldest forms of media is print.
It also a communication outlets or a medium of
communication that are used to store and deliver information.
Information A broad term that
covers processed data, knowledge derived
from study, experience, instruction, signals
or symbols.
Example: The messages that you share with your
friends, the news that you watch on tv and the articles
that you read on the internet.
Communication A process by
which information is exchanged from
sender to receiver through a common
system of symbols, signs or behaviour
resulting in interpretations of meaning.

Today due to the advancement of
technology people can now communicate
and disseminate information at a faster
pace anytime and anywhere with the use
of different media such as radio, television,
cell phones and emails.

Media Literacy
The ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and
create media in a variety of forms. It aims
to empower citizens by providing them
with the competencies (knowledge and
skills) necessary to engage with traditional
media and new technologies.
Information Literacy
The ability to recognize when information is
needed, and to locate, evaluate, and
effectively communicate information in its
various formats.
Technology (digital) Literacy
The ability of an individual, either working
independently or with others, to responsibly,
appropriately, and effectively use
technological tools. Using these tools an
individual can access, manage, integrate,
evaluate, create and communicate
information.
In the modern world nothing is important
to be Media and Information Literate.
But what will happen when media and
information are distorted?
We all know that media and information
are important components in
communication process.
Misrepresentation of information and
media distortion will result to
misunderstanding, deceived receivers,
wrong judgements and panic. This is we
called FAKE NEWS.
That is why today we have to be mindful
with the information we receive in social
media due to the overwhelming number of
information its now harder to determine
which fact and which is fake.
So how can we give a solution to this?

• Ashley, a Grade 11 student of Gintong Tubig
Senior High School is proficient in using her i7
processor laptop with so much ease and
comfort. In fact, she is accustomed to use it
to create powerful PowerPoint presentations
during graded class reporting.
Technology (Digital)
Literacy
• In order to add related literature to his
Practical Research project, Donnie accesses
Google Scholar, and reads through various
journals and studies that may help him in his
research.
Situation Literacy
• As part of the various social media activities
of David, a Grade 12 HUMSS student, he
periodically shares news bits from credible
online sources, then tag his friends who may
be interested with the information.
• One of the Performance Task for the
Midterms of the Grade 11 Jenner class of
Mabuhay Senior High School is to create a
short film highlighting their advocacy on
Human Trafficking. The class used the Quik
™ app to edit their video.
Situation Literacy
• In order to convey his stand on various social
issues involving his peers, Marla uses her
Twitter and Facebook accounts to air her
sentiments and opinions.
• Mr. Dingal requires his Grade 11 students to
prepare PowerPoint Presentation or other
presentation tools when doing graded class
reporting.
