3. Energy Consumption Figures - 2019-2020
Usage from Activities
2019 Energy Consumption = 5,853,443 Kwh
Includes:
Gas: To lower gas consumption, Barnsley Leisure Centre could increase efficiency through
insulation of facilities.
Electricity: To lower electricity consumption, invest in renewable energy sources such as solar
panels to reduce energy consumption from the grid (also cheaper).
Usage from Transport
Company vehicle - Fuel used (miles)= 61,006 miles x 0.24008 = 14,646 kg/co2
Grey fleet vehicle- Fuel used (miles)= 15,575 miles x 0.31202 = 4,859.7 kg/co2
kg/Co2 per mile
conversion
TRANSPORT FLEET
-9 Vans=1,627 kg/co2 each
-4 cars=1,215 kg/co2 each
Reducing 1 van and 1 car would reduce
carbon emission by 2,842 KG/Co2 OR
14.5%
4. Energy Consumption Figures - 2022
Usage from Activities
2022 Audit Year Energy Consumption = 3,441,817 Kwh
Reduction of 2,411,626 Kwh
Usage from Transport so far (62% of Annual Data)
Company vehicle - Fuel used (miles)= 32,439 x 0.24008 = 7,787.9 kg/co2
Estimated Annual Figure = 12,561.1 kg/co2
Estimated Reduction of 2,084.9 kg/co2
5. Graphical Representation of energy and fuel
consumption
Graph showing the fuel consumption of BPL
across 2 years which evidences a decline in
emissions. (FIgures in KG/CO2)
Graph showing total Energy consumption across a 2
year period (measured in KWH)
6. Carbon Footprint
This report is of Barnsley Premier Leisure’s
Carbon Footprint.
● Main source of emissions is
consumption of indirect energy
(electricity, heat and cooling)
● Main type of transportation is cars,
which can be a good thing if the cars
are hybrid or electric
7. Competitors carbon reducing actions
Competitors:
● Doncaster Culture
and Leisure Trust
● East Grinstead Sports
Club LTD
● Impulse Leisure
8. Recommendations
● Use Renewable Energy Sources:
- A typical solar panel saves 900 kg of co2 per year with a carbon payback period of
only 1.6 years
● The switch to electric vehicles is more accessible and affordable than ever
- 2-3p per mile for an electric vehicle compared to 10p per mile for a diesel vehicle
- For every 20,000 miles potential saving of £1600 in fuel alone
- Until April 2025 all electric vehicles are exempt from VED (Road Tax), saving £165
per vehicle per year
