2. The Purge is a low budget slasher horror film
which contained ideas that inspired some
aspects of our coursework…
For example…
3. For the first 28
seconds the
titles come up
on a black
screen, This is
very ambiguous
therefore
creating tension
The first thing that is seen is this.
This creates unanswered questions
and tension, therefore it is a
hermeneutic code
We are using this technique in the opening seconds of
our coursework however we are doing this to create
tension instead of to provide information, which is
what they are doing here.
4. The use of
night mode
filming was
particularly
interesting
as it makes
the audience
believe its
real.
The use of
the time
being
recorded
at the
bottom of
the screen
gives the
audience a
sense of
time and
setting
that they
could
relate to.
As a group we liked the look of the night mode
and we have decided to use it in our coursework
due to the new dimension it gave our opening
sequence.
5. The use of parallel editing created tension
throughout the opening sequence of ‘The
Purge’ and we have used this type of editing to
create the same effect.
