“You cannot see because you must have sinned a lot in your previous life.”
There are more than 200,000 blind and visually impaired people in Cambodia. They have rights to
learn and secure independent living. However, many people believe that it is shame to be born
with visual impairment because of the influence of Buddhism.
It is extremely hard to find out reliable number of the blind children in Cambodia because many
parents think it is a shame to have a blind kids and put them in the shade.
Mrs. Phalla Neang, the first special education teacher in Cambodia, thought different. She visited a
lot of family to find blind children by herself and persuaded parents to let her teach and take care
of the kids.
Mrs. Phalla Neang
Since 1987, she has contributed to improve social perception
of blindness and visual impairment.
In 2002, she joined Krousar Thmey special school for the
bind and deaf children and manages 5 blind schools in
Cambodia.
And she was awarded Global Teacher Prize which is
considered as a Nobel Prize for the educators in 2018
Impressed with her devotion to the blind children, we
determined to start our project in Cambodia and find
a way to improve her operating schools.
A necessary item for the blind students
in developing countries
Braille Board + Braille Slate + Stylus
For the blind student, it is necessary to use braille slate which
requires braille paper. However, we found that it is not
convenient to fix and unfix the braille papers to write and read
memos, especially when they solve math problems. And it is
even hard for the developing countries to supply braille papers
because of the problem of finance.
Product Name: Versa Slate
(Paperless, portable, and erasable braille slate)
Product Features: Stylus attached (magnetic included so that reduces the possibility of loss).
Directly write on the braille board without braille papers. Modifiable.
Goal: Improving the learning environment of the visually impaired in Cambodia by developing and
distributing a paperless, portable, and erasable braille slate without any environmental constraint. Criteria

provide Versa Slate to the blind people in the U.S, France, Holland, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia. We are keep going to make
new innovations which can make an impact on the assistive technology industry and improve the daily lives of the blind and
the visually impaired following to Overflow’s vision; Contribute to the society by creating innovative products and services to
improve information accessibilities of the people with visual impairment.
