This document discusses philosophical issues regarding literature. It begins with defining key terms like literature, philosophy, and issues. It then provides background on the relationship between literature and philosophy, noting they differ in their focuses. The discussion explains two sides of an argument about whether literature can be criticized through philosophy and vice versa. One view is that literature deeply impacts humans, while another is that philosophy connects to real human concerns. The document raises philosophical questions about literature concerning ethics, the mind-world connection, free will, and more. It concludes by asking the reader to reflect on a song and consider philosophical questions it inspires.

the topic.

for today.
04
Reflection
Making a philosophical
question.
4. LITERATURE
It is a body of written works through
imaginative works of poetry and
prose that differs according to the
intention of the authors and their
excellence in executing their
intentions.
5. PHILOSOPHY
Basically defined as the pursuit of
wisdom, truth, and knowledge. It
was derived from the Greek words
‘philo’ which means ‘love’ and
‘sophia’ which means ‘wisdom’.
Therefore, it means the “love of
wisdom”.
6. ISSUES
It was derived from the Latin word
‘exitus’ which means ‘to go out’. It is
a softer version of a problem with an
already obvious solution. It often
bears a slight impact and causes
personal annoyance.
7. PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUES
Are technically the problems or
topics raised by the study of
Philosophy. But the search for more
answers leads to the existence of more
questions.
9. LITERATURE AND PHILOSOPHY
LITERATURE
Literature focuses on
fiction, emotion, and
metaphorical language.
PHILOSOPHY
Philosophy revolves
around the truth,
intellect, and the literal
use of language.
13. PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUES IN LITERATURE
Some philosophers are willing to recognize the philosophical
engagement of literature to philosophy. Some are even to the
extent of erasing the boundaries between the two practices.
However, there is a wide argument how literature can never be
criticized through philosophy and philosophy can never be
criticized through literature. It’s because it harms the nature of
both practices as they are both fundamentally diverse.
14. On the first side of the argument, it is believed that literary
themes have an everlasting impact to humans. Because what
literature presents concerns the readers as a human being.
On the other side of the argument, it is believed that a good
philosophy is ‘serious’. This is what makes human beings
connected to the things that most of the people actually care
about. Therefore, philosophy deepens the awakened concerns of
people as human being.
15. Knowing the strongest points of the connection between
literature and philosophy, there were still series of issues on
how they should have precision in having a mutual interest to
one another.
16. The following philosophical issues regarding literature are
questions concerning what’s right and wrong, justice and
fairness, the connection between the world and our minds,
determinism and freewill, reliability of our knowledge, nature
of our consciousness, other minds, and the like.
18. Carefully understand the lyric video
on the link that will be given in the
next slides
.
Then, try to answer the philosophical
questions to be given after watching.
INSTRUCTIONS
19. Think of the most important family
member of you who has passed away.
Feel the lyrics of the song as it plays.
Think of how regretful you are for not
being able to spend most of your time
when they’re still alive.
21. “If being so kind makes you
forget to be clever and being
so clever makes you forget to
be kind, will the world
become a better place if we all
choose to be stupid and bad?”
QUESTION 1
22. “Why do we have to lose
people when we need them
the most and those who are
supposed to be there for us
when we finally succeed?”
QUESTION 2
23. “Aren’t we only fooling
ourselves when we keep dead
people alive in our head?”
QUESTION 3
24. “What’s the sense of living if
we’ll only end up dying?
Are we only living to to die
struggling?”

PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION
