Ceramic-coated aluminium is employed for this new addition to
Hublot’s skull series. The material is obtained through a treatment
known as MAO (Microarc Oxidation), which consists of a surface
conversion through plasma discharge in an electrolyte bath, forming
a ceramic layer that is hard, dense and adhesive. If that sounds a bit
like something that might happen in Dexter’s Lab, worry not, the
aesthetics of the watch are beautiful. The manual winding skeleton
tourbillon movement has a five-day power reserve and contrasts
stylishly with the ceramic-coated aluminium that has been micro-
blasted for a distressed look.

Independent brand Speake-Marin was established in
2002 by British watchmaker, Peter Speake-Marin. Peter’s
consummate skill and experience result in timepieces that
are technically superlative and aesthetically distinctive.
Speake-Marin’s Fine Art collections allow Peter to fully
express his artistic vision and the Face To Face is nothing
short of a wearable work of art. Two distinctive black skulls
have been hand etched onto the dial iconic Piccadilly
steel case of this automatic winding, 42 mm watch. The
detailed depiction of mortality might seem sombre or just a
reminder to enjoy the short time we have.

Issued as part of a 22 piece limited edition set, the inspiration
for this watch comes from the Mexican celebration of the
Day Of The Dead, celebrated on the 31st October through 2
November. Decoration for this timepiece draws heavily from
traditional Mexican decorations using hand-crafted colourful
applique and brightly coloured enamel. The seven colours on
the applique are a reminder of the seven stages the soul must
pass through before being able to rest in pace. The coloured
skull detail sits in bright contrast against the black, mirror-
polished dial and hornback alligator strap.
