Results and Conclusions

I asked this question to see if the
feedback I got was from an equal split of
genders. As the statistics show I had 61%
feedback from males and 39% from
females. This is not an exact equal split
but the feedback will not be from one
gender.
This allows me to see how both genders
respond to my magazine rather than just
females or just males.

This question was asked to see what age ranges
answered my questionnaire. This would enable me
to know what the majority of ages think as 64% of
the people who answered were ages 13-18, the next
highest age range (19-26) with 11% and ages 27-35
had the percentage of 11% as well. There were no
responses for ages 36-40 but there were a small
percentage (14%) of people who were 41+ but as
they are slightly over the target audience ages, I
know that some of the answers will be answered
differently due to the ages. For example the price
of the magazine, some people aged 41+ may not
know how much a monthly music magazine costs
and therefore they could think that £3 is a bit much
when really it is an average price.

I asked this question to see how people would
react as if the magazine was being viewed in a
shop, as they wouldn’t be able to read the
magazine before buying. They would only see the
cover before buying it. Having only 4% of the
audience say no shows that I had a striking enough
image for my cover for only a minority not to like
it. The problem could be that the 14% don’t like
the fonts used or the colours but the 86% of people
who would buy the magazine based on the front
cover have a higher percentage of people’s
opinions as out of 28 responses 4 said no and 24
said yes.
*Why?
This question was an add on for the previous allowing me to
see why they would/wouldn’t buy the magazine based on
the cover alone. I had written responses such as ‘I like that
genre of music’, ‘Looks interesting’, ‘Very bright and eye
catching’ and ‘Familiar characters’. These responses tell me
that I chose the right people for my front cover as they don’t
make the audience feel uncomfortable or that they
shouldn’t buy the magazine because they don’t look like
them, etc. With my colour choice, I chose a purple that
wasn’t too dark nor too bright therefore it was eye catching
yet not overwhelming. The negatives were mainly aimed at
the layout being ‘Hectic’, but that could be from an
audience member in the 41+ age range who would prefer a
more simple cover, unlike ages 15-35.

Country Rap Jazz Pop Dance Indie Rock Grime
I asked this question to see how people
could guess that my magazine was an Indie
Rock magazine just by analysing the cover
lines (reading famous band names and
seeing how all the names mentioned are of
the same genre) and looking at the models
outfits, facial expressions and body
language. I got back that 4% thought it was
Grime, 3% thought it was Dance, 7%
thought it was Pop, but 86% thought it was
Indie Rock. By having 0% for Country, Rap
and Jazz, tells me I made the magazine
look like an Indie Rock magazine to the
majority of people.
Why do you think it is that genre?
This question allowed me to understand why they thought it
was the genre they seemed to think it looked like. For
example, I had many responses related to the clothing that
the models on the cover were wearing and that the
background gave them connotations of Indie Rock. Some
people caught on to the cover lines and they said they knew
it was Indie Rock because of the bands mentioned and the
instruments made them sway towards Indie Rock rather than
Jazz or Rap.

1=Not very interesting, 5=Quite interesting, 10=Very interesting

This question was to give me an idea as to how
audiences would react to how the cover lines
were worded. Having 25% give them a rating of 8
tells me that the cover lines were interesting to
the audience overall. Having 11% say 10 shows me
that there are some people who would love to buy
this magazine. With a small amount of people
giving it a rating of 1star (3%), 3stars (7%) and
5stars (11%), shows me that there are some things
that not every audience member will like as you
can not make something that everyone likes,
there will always be something that an audience
member doesn’t like; colour scheme for example.

This question allows me to see what I did
that appealed to the audience. The
results show that the highest
percentages of 20% were for the main
image and overall layout of the page.
The lowest was for the magazine name
with 11%. Before publishing I would
probably have another questionnaire just
based on naming the magazine so that
the audience will like that just as much
as they like the main image for example.

I asked this question to find out what the
audience found appealing when looking at the
contents page. My results showed me that 30%
of people found the pictures appealing, 17%
found the colours appealing, telling me that I
chose the right colour for my target audience.
The lowest percentage was 12% for the pictures
captions, this could be that they aren't eye
catching enough or they didn’t like the
wording/content of the captions. The article
information was appealing to 15% of people and
13% were appealed by the article headers and
content title.

This question allows me to see what the
audience found appealing about what is
included in the contents page. 25% of people
found the interviews appealing, 16% found
the behind the scenes appealing. The lowest
percentage was 10% for reviews probably
because if the fans like a certain band/artist
then they will want to buy their music
anyway, regardless of other peoples opinions
of it but it is nice to know what people think
of a product before you buy anything.

I asked this question to find out what the audience
found most appealing on the double page spread.
The main image was appealing to 28% of people,
telling me that I took a striking enough image to
catch the readers eye. The layout of the article got
20%, telling me it was simple to read and not a
confusing structure with the image in the centre of
the text. Only 9% of people found the main headline
and main article appealing, probably because they
didn’t want to read the whole article in the middle
of a short questionnaire. The colour scheme (18%),
stand first and pull quote (16%), wasn’t extremely
eye catching to the readers but they liked the look
of it or how it was written, telling me I could make
the text bolder or word it differently/use a
different quote.
Do you think £3 is a reasonable price for
a monthly music magazine?

This question was asked to see if my target
audience found £3 a reasonable price for my
magazine. 89% of people said yes, telling me
that the majority found that they could easily
afford the average price of a monthly
magazine. However, 11% of people said no, this
could be because they don’t have a job or don’t
get a lot of/as much pocket money as other
people. Each person has a different situation;
some people earn their own money with a job,
some people use pocket money and some
people use that money to buy necessities
instead of material items.
*Why?
Having the overall percentage of people saying yes this tells me that they
can afford it, also with people telling me “It’s a good price for teens”,
“Similar prices to other magazines” and one person responded saying “I
would charge more, looking at average magazine prices”. This tells me
that people think it is affordable, cheap but full of content that they
want to read about. On the other hand, the 11% said “Too expensive for a
small print”, this audience member could have thought that the pages I
had produced was the whole magazine, when really the magazine
includes over 100 pages because it’s a monthly magazine it has more
content than a weekly one.

  • 2. Gender? 39% 61% Male Female I asked this question to see if the feedback I got was from an equal split of genders. As the statistics show I had 61% feedback from males and 39% from females. This is not an exact equal split but the feedback will not be from one gender. This allows me to see how both genders respond to my magazine rather than just females or just males.
  • 3. Age? 64%11% 11% 0% 14% 13-18 19-26 27-35 36-40 41+ This question was asked to see what age ranges answered my questionnaire. This would enable me to know what the majority of ages think as 64% of the people who answered were ages 13-18, the next highest age range (19-26) with 11% and ages 27-35 had the percentage of 11% as well. There were no responses for ages 36-40 but there were a small percentage (14%) of people who were 41+ but as they are slightly over the target audience ages, I know that some of the answers will be answered differently due to the ages. For example the price of the magazine, some people aged 41+ may not know how much a monthly music magazine costs and therefore they could think that £3 is a bit much when really it is an average price.
  • 4. Would you buy this magazine based on the Front Cover? 86% 14% Yes No I asked this question to see how people would react as if the magazine was being viewed in a shop, as they wouldn’t be able to read the magazine before buying. They would only see the cover before buying it. Having only 4% of the audience say no shows that I had a striking enough image for my cover for only a minority not to like it. The problem could be that the 14% don’t like the fonts used or the colours but the 86% of people who would buy the magazine based on the front cover have a higher percentage of people’s opinions as out of 28 responses 4 said no and 24 said yes.
  • 5. *Why? This question was an add on for the previous allowing me to see why they would/wouldn’t buy the magazine based on the cover alone. I had written responses such as ‘I like that genre of music’, ‘Looks interesting’, ‘Very bright and eye catching’ and ‘Familiar characters’. These responses tell me that I chose the right people for my front cover as they don’t make the audience feel uncomfortable or that they shouldn’t buy the magazine because they don’t look like them, etc. With my colour choice, I chose a purple that wasn’t too dark nor too bright therefore it was eye catching yet not overwhelming. The negatives were mainly aimed at the layout being ‘Hectic’, but that could be from an audience member in the 41+ age range who would prefer a more simple cover, unlike ages 15-35.
  • 6. From the Front over, what genre do you think the magazine is? 0% 0% 0% 7% 3% 86% 4% Country Rap Jazz Pop Dance Indie Rock Grime I asked this question to see how people could guess that my magazine was an Indie Rock magazine just by analysing the cover lines (reading famous band names and seeing how all the names mentioned are of the same genre) and looking at the models outfits, facial expressions and body language. I got back that 4% thought it was Grime, 3% thought it was Dance, 7% thought it was Pop, but 86% thought it was Indie Rock. By having 0% for Country, Rap and Jazz, tells me I made the magazine look like an Indie Rock magazine to the majority of people.
  • 7. Why do you think it is that genre? This question allowed me to understand why they thought it was the genre they seemed to think it looked like. For example, I had many responses related to the clothing that the models on the cover were wearing and that the background gave them connotations of Indie Rock. Some people caught on to the cover lines and they said they knew it was Indie Rock because of the bands mentioned and the instruments made them sway towards Indie Rock rather than Jazz or Rap.

On a scale of 1-10stars, how interested do the cover lines sound to you on the front cover? 1=Not very interesting, 5=Quite interesting, 10=Very interesting 3% 0% 7% 0% 11% 18% 11% 25% 14% 11% How Interested? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 This question was to give me an idea as to how audiences would react to how the cover lines were worded. Having 25% give them a rating of 8 tells me that the cover lines were interesting to the audience overall. Having 11% say 10 shows me that there are some people who would love to buy this magazine. With a small amount of people giving it a rating of 1star (3%), 3stars (7%) and 5stars (11%), shows me that there are some things that not every audience member will like as you can not make something that everyone likes, there will always be something that an audience member doesn’t like; colour scheme for example.

What do you find appealing on the Front Cover? 20% 11% 13% 10% 13% 13% 20% Main Image Outfits Worn by the Models Colour Scheme Magazine Name "Wanna Win" Incentive articles Overall Layout of the page This question allows me to see what I did that appealed to the audience. The results show that the highest percentages of 20% were for the main image and overall layout of the page. The lowest was for the magazine name with 11%. Before publishing I would probably have another questionnaire just based on naming the magazine so that the audience will like that just as much as they like the main image for example.
  • 10. What do you find appealing on the Contents Page? 30% 12% 13% 15% 17% 13% Pictures Picture Captions Article Headers Article Information Colours Used Contents Title I asked this question to find out what the audience found appealing when looking at the contents page. My results showed me that 30% of people found the pictures appealing, 17% found the colours appealing, telling me that I chose the right colour for my target audience. The lowest percentage was 12% for the pictures captions, this could be that they aren't eye catching enough or they didn’t like the wording/content of the captions. The article information was appealing to 15% of people and 13% were appealed by the article headers and content title.
  • 11. What do you find appealing in the Contents Page? 25% 16% 11% 14% 10% 11% 13% Interviews Behind the Scenes Spotting bands/artists Q&A Reviews Gigs going the extra mile Posters This question allows me to see what the audience found appealing about what is included in the contents page. 25% of people found the interviews appealing, 16% found the behind the scenes appealing. The lowest percentage was 10% for reviews probably because if the fans like a certain band/artist then they will want to buy their music anyway, regardless of other peoples opinions of it but it is nice to know what people think of a product before you buy anything.

What appeals to you on the Double Page Spread? 28% 9% 16%9% 20% 18% Main Image Main Headline Paragraph of text before the article/Quote on image Main Article Layout of the article Colour scheme I asked this question to find out what the audience found most appealing on the double page spread. The main image was appealing to 28% of people, telling me that I took a striking enough image to catch the readers eye. The layout of the article got 20%, telling me it was simple to read and not a confusing structure with the image in the centre of the text. Only 9% of people found the main headline and main article appealing, probably because they didn’t want to read the whole article in the middle of a short questionnaire. The colour scheme (18%), stand first and pull quote (16%), wasn’t extremely eye catching to the readers but they liked the look of it or how it was written, telling me I could make the text bolder or word it differently/use a different quote.
  • 13. Do you think £3 is a reasonable price for a monthly music magazine? 89% 11% Yes No This question was asked to see if my target audience found £3 a reasonable price for my magazine. 89% of people said yes, telling me that the majority found that they could easily afford the average price of a monthly magazine. However, 11% of people said no, this could be because they don’t have a job or don’t get a lot of/as much pocket money as other people. Each person has a different situation; some people earn their own money with a job, some people use pocket money and some people use that money to buy necessities instead of material items.
  • 14. *Why? Having the overall percentage of people saying yes this tells me that they can afford it, also with people telling me “It’s a good price for teens”, “Similar prices to other magazines” and one person responded saying “I would charge more, looking at average magazine prices”. This tells me that people think it is affordable, cheap but full of content that they want to read about. On the other hand, the 11% said “Too expensive for a small print”, this audience member could have thought that the pages I had produced was the whole magazine, when really the magazine includes over 100 pages because it’s a monthly magazine it has more content than a weekly one.
