students are safe before entering their classroom.
8:40 am Instruction Begins: Students should be in
classroom before 8:40am.

parkers, and bus riders.
Any student arriving after the 8:40 bell, will need to be escorted by their parent
to the front office for their tardy pass.
Transportation Changes
Please be sure that if you have transportations
that they are made before 2:15pm, and please
send them to the front office by e-mailing
Knewsome@pasco.k12.fl.us
Security
•All parents must check in at the front office,
with their driver’s license, in order to receive a
visitor's badge that must be worn at all times
while on campus.
•If there is a custody issue, please bring the
original paperwork and we would be happy to
make a copy for your child’s record.
PTA and Volunteering
● SMES has an active PTA and SAC
● PTA is available for sign up tonight
● Volunteer Coordinator: Kristie Newsome,
School Secretary
● Please apply today if you have not already, you
must register every year.
● Volunteers cannot go into the classroom or on
field trips without being an approved volunteer
through district.
Lunch
Please feel free to come and have
lunch with your child or children.
Lunch time with your child or children
will only be with them and not their
friends.
4th Grade Lunch Times:
12:33 & 12:36
Birthdays!
● Birthdays are special days for all students. All birthdays will
be recognized by the front office by:
*collecting a birthday present
*special birthday song
● Summer birthdays are included in celebrating!
● Parents may not send a treat, cupcakes, balloons, or party
favors as this impedes on instructional time for all students.
● If you intend to pass out
birthday invitations at school,
you must include the entire
class. If you don’t want to
invite the whole class, you
must pass out invitations on
your own, outside of school.
STUDENTS TAKING CHARGE
Learner Active, Technology Infused
Students will be using real-life authentic tasks to access the curriculum.
Examples for this year are: Mission Possible, Mythbusters, and Amazing
Race.
Students are responsible for scheduling their day attending the mandatory
“Benchmark Lessons” and attending voluntary “Mini-lessons” as
needed for skills.

Come and join us!
Student Led Conferencing
New to Sanders this year: The Future of
Conferencing!
Let’s take a look!
https://www.powtoon.com/m/dm0SU4Oj5Cr/1/m
FSA
This year your child will take 3 state assessments.
Writing
Reading
Math
The writing will be given earlier in the Spring than the other 2
assessments to allow time for scoring.
The writing score will be added to the reading score to give an
overall reading writing.
DEVICES
Our students will be using their MacBook Pros
on a daily basis at school. However, there may
be times where they can bring an additional
device from home that can offer something
different than the computers (i.e. apps, easier
way to take pictures, etc). In these cases,
students will be allowed to bring and use their
devices ONLY if we receive the signed “BYOD”
(Bring Your Own Device) form.
Matrix of Rules with Example Behaviors
Each grade level will have a matrix aligned with the rules for students to
understand
how to earn points and why points will be deducted. (Sample below is from K.)
DOJO DEDUCTIONS
• If a student breaks one of
our SHARP rules, they
will have a “Dojo
Deduction” and can lose
a point.
• Just like in a clip chart
system, there will be a
series of consequences
that follow negative
behavior.
PRIZES
• Class Dojo will keep record of
the points, and the student can
then cash points out for prizes.
• Students can cash in points for
prizes on a pre-set menu
established by the teacher.
• Students will also be
recognized school-wide for
being a top point earner and
can choose from special prizes,
such as lunch with the
principals.
• We also are introducing a
school store for high point
earners this year!
