Today’s students are surrounded by visual media in their
everyday lives. With their heavy use of the Internet, they are
accustomed to accessing information in both textual and visual
forms. The use of images in the classroom is a pedagogical
strategy aimed at engaging students who have grown up in a
media-rich environment. Digital technology has made images
more readily available and easier to incorporate into teaching
and learning materials.
While teaching with images has been at the core of disciplines
like art history for decades, all courses can benefit from the use
of visual materials in class lectures, assignments, exercises, and
resources. Images can be an effective way of presenting abstract
concepts or groups of data. Instructors have reported that their
use of images in the classroom has led to increased student
interactivity and discussion. Teaching with images can also help
develop students’ visual literacy skills, which contributes to
their overall critical thinking skills and lifelong learning.

MODERN TLM
• The modern teaching aids include: computers, internet surfing,
laptops, electronic notebooks, e-readers, computer educational games,
online dictionaries, online encyclopaedias, picture dictionaries, talking
dictionaries, online tests, online e-books, audio-video teaching aids for
learning, various subjects.

• Now we are going to see radio, TV, Computers, CCTV, Multimedia,
teleconferencing, video conferencing, Edusat and internet.
TV
• Children are extremely fond of cartoon networks on Television. In a similar manner if we
have Audio Visual TLMs for capturing the attention of children, then learning will be
interesting and effective. Gyan Darshan of IGNOU is aChannel dedicated to educational
programmes. Educational programmes prepared by CIET for children are regularly
broadcasted. SIETs produce programmes in local languages for children. Television is
useful as it brings to children a wide variety of programmes in their local language. They
can use it to learn about new things and then clarify the points they did not understand
with their teacher. As a teacher, you should try to prepare children to watch the
programme. You should ask questions related to the topic being telecast on TV. This will
raise their curiosity level and they will be more alert and focused while watching the TV
programme. After watching the programme, there should be discussion. This will help
in retention of the points learned and helps in consolidating the learning. Both pre and
post screening discussions are important as they help in concept construction among
learners. https://www.examweb.in/education-via-television-impressive-teaching-aid-essay-

COMPUTERS
• Computers are one of the most valuable resources in a classroom because they
serve so many useful functions. With computers and the internet, students today
have a wealth of information at their fingertips that can help them develop their
research and communication skills while preparing them for a future career in a
workforce that is increasingly reliant on computer technology. Computers have
revolutionized the teaching profession in multiple ways. Teachers use computers
to record grades, calculate averages, manage attendance and access data on
student performance in online programs and assessments. Computers have also
made it easier for teachers to vary their instructional delivery. Instead of lecturing
at the front of the room for an entire class period, teachers can incorporate
technology into their lessons to keep students engaged while appealing to a
variety of learning styles. From using computers to create presentations on a topic
to showing video clips that complement the lesson at hand, technology helps
teachers make the content easier for students to understand.
https://www.theclassroom.com/uses-computers-education-4813487.html
CCTV
• Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, schools were faced with relocating traditional face to face
instruction to behind a screen. CCTV setups were quickly repurposed and used as tools to provide an
education for students outside of the school building. Teachers became the only subject recorded by the
camera and streamed to students working from home. If schools hosted half in person and half to remote
learners, the cameras were also used to create a sense of community among the class of students.
• CCTV systems can also be used daily in schools as a broadcasting program. Students can join a broadcasting
club where they are assigned roles, such as camera operator or news reporter. Students are taught how to
manage the camera, while other students learn how to generate scripts for student reporters to read during the
daily broadcast while being filmed by a student directing the camera. A crew of students can be organized to
generate cue cards, operate microphones, and research information to be reported. A broadcasting
opportunity for students develops oral presentation skills and confidence in giving presentations. Public
speaking builds articulation skills for students, reading fluency, and is a confidence builder. CCTV allows
daily broadcasts to be viewed by students in individual classrooms or can be recorded to view at a later date.
• Closed Circuit Television is an excellent tool to ensure the safety and security of students and faculty inside
and outside of school, provide instruction to students not able to learn inside the school building, and can
provide an opportunity for students to build upon reading skills.
