POWER
MUARA TAWAR 5 – Indonesia
234 MW – KA13E2
Combined-Cycle Power Plant
PROJECT FEATURES PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- This project involves extension of the existing power plant with a fifth block.
The new KA13E2 block adds an additional 234 MW to the current 1800 MW
plant, helping the country to cope with the current electricity crisis on the
Java/Bali grid.
- The Alstom-Marubeni consortium already built combined-cycle block 1 and gas
turbine peaking block 2 in 1995.
- Alstom has already been a key player in the Indonesian power generation
market since the 1960’s. It has supported the client PT PLN in meeting the
growing energy demand of the country through the construction of gas, coal
and hydro power plants.
CUSTOMER BENEFITS
- High availability and reliability thanks to the KA13E2 proven technology
- Optimised base load through Plant Integrator™ methodology
- High operational flexibility to meet the booming demand for power
- An environmentally-responsible power solution with low emissions
The power plant is located in Muara Tawar,
35 km from Jakarta, on the northern coast of
Java Island, Indonesia.

island of a KA13E2 multi-shaft Combined-Cycle Power Plant including:
- overall plant engineering,
- global procurement & logistics,
- electrical and mechanical construction supervision,
- commissioning of the power plant.
• Alstom's proven equipment and mature technology is designed and
manufactured in-house:
- One highly reliable & clean power producing GT13E2 gas turbine with unique
EV (EnVironmental) burner technology,
- One horizontal dual pressure Heat Recovery Steam Generator,
- One COMAX steam turbine,
- One air-cooled TOPAIR turbogenerator for the gas turbine,
- One air-cooled TOPACK turbogenerator for the steam turbine,
- One seawater cooled condenser,
- ALSPA power control systems.
The Muara Tawar project benefits from superior integration through
Alstom’s project management skills, EPC capabilities and state-of-the-art
key components.
Meeting Perusahan Listrik
Negara Limited’s requirements
Demand for power has grown
considerably in Indonesia, stimulated
by economic recovery. This increase
in demand, combined with
decreasing generation capacities in
ageing existing power plants, could
have led to a deteriorating demand-
supply balance. To avoid such a
situation, an investment programme
was launched to develop the existing
Muara Tawar power plant. This
project will help the country to face
its present growth in power demand,
while protecting the environment
with clean power solutions.
With its environmental and economic advantages,
this plant is another example of Alstom capability
to deliver clean integrated power solutions.
