Setting Tab Stops
Part I(Tab Stops Markers)
Tab Stop Markers are found on the ruler above the document workspace. Each tab stop marker
symbolizes how the text will react when you key a tab on the keyboard.
Look at the tab marker that is to the left of the ruler. This looks like an L. Draw it in the table below
and then write its name in the appropriate column. Then using the Help feature (F!) look up Tab Stops
to find an article that describes the alignment of the tabs (Hint: consult your starter)
Click on the tab marker to the left of the ruler, draw the marker that comes up, name it and describe it.
Do this 2 more times. Do not create this table in Word, WRITE your answers below.

Part II (Setting Tabs)
Now that you know what types of tab markers they are, let’s try them out and see what they do.
Open Word and type these words (the words in bold should be key strokes):
Song (tab) Artist (tab) Publish Date (Tab) Price (Enter)
Under Song type We Are Young (tab), under artist type Janelle Monáe(tab), under date type Sept. 2011
(tab), under price type .99
Highlight the words you just typed and then click with your mouse on the ruler at these points:
2 ¼ inches, 4 inches and 6 inches
When you are done, your lines should look like the ones below:
Song Artist Publish Date Price
We Are Young Janelle Monáe Sept. 2011 .99
All words should line up with the tab marker to the left of the word.
Continue by typing this list:
Set Fire to The Rain Adele Feb. 2011 1.29
Part of Me Katy Perry Feb. 2012 .99
Good Feeling Flo Rider Aug. 2011 .99

Part III (Removing and Replacing Tabs)
Highlight all the text you have typed up to now (hint: use Ctrl+A). Click on the tab marker that is at the
2 ¼ inch mark, and drag it OFF the ruler. Click on the box where the tab stop marker is and change it so
that it’s the right tab marker (refer to the table you created above). Click on the ruler at the 3 ½ inch
mark.
While you have the text highlighted, remove the tab stop at the 4 inch mark and replace it with a
center tab at the 4 ½. Remove the last tab, at 6 inches, and replace it with a decimal tab at 6 inches.
I now want you to a dot leader to the space between the Publish Date and the price.
1. Highlight the text you’ve typed
2. Click on the more button in the Paragraph group on the Home tab.
3. In the lower right corner of the dialog box, click on the button Tabs, this brings a new dialog
box, tabs.
4. Your existing tabs are there, you will need to click on the 6” marker in the window.
5. You will notice that the Alignment for the 6” marker is decimal.
6. In the Leader section, click on the 2 (dot) leader.
7. When you click on OK, there should be dots between the Publish Date and the Price.
Part IV (Adding Information to the Table)
Add 3 more songs to this list by going to Amazon.com and picking the MP3 & Cloud Player area from
the list. Make sure you collect all the appropriate information.
When you are done, you should have at least 8 songs listed. Please do not list albums!
