People communicate to establish and build a relationship
(Sepacio, 2016).
Communicative strategies are the approaches or techniques
on how to deal with difficulties encountered when communicating.
Types of Communicative Strategy

Here are the seven communicative strategies:
1. NOMINATION
 A speaker carries out nomination to collaboratively and productively establish a topic.
Basically, when you employ this strategy, you try to open a topic with the people you
are talking to.
 It happens when a participant opens up a topic for conversation. When starting a
conversation, especially when it does not arise from any previous topic, a participant
starts off with inquiries.
Examples:
➢ "Do you have anything to say?"
➢ "Have you heard the news about the prettiest girl in school?"
➢ "Now, it’s your turn to ask questions."
➢ "Does that make sense to you?"

Robert: Hey, Laura! How are you? Have you heard about Mia today?
Laura: Oh, Hi, Robert! What‟s up? You seem so nervous. I have not heard anything about Mia.
Robert: It has something to do with the result of the scholarship that she applied. She made it!
Laura: Really? Wow! Good for her. She can finally proceed to college for free.
Robert: I know. But what worries me is that she will be away. She will be staying near the university.
Laura: Oh, I see. That means we won‟t be seeing her often.
Robert: I will be missing her.
Laura: I will be missing her too.
Robert: I hope her the best. I pray she will do her best.
Laura: Yes. I support her endeavor.
Robert: That‟s the only thing I want to talk to you about.
Robert: It‟s kinda late already. Shall we?
Laura: What do you mean by „Shall we‟?

PERFORMANCE TASK
SCRIPTWRITING AND ROLE-PLAYING.
In your group, write a script for each of the following scenarios presented.
Make sure to employ the different communicative strategies along the
dialogues of your characters. Encode then print your script and place it
inside a long folder.

Scene 1: While eating in the canteen, you go over the brochures of the tourist
spot for the field trip. You talk about various information about the location.
Scene 2: You decide on the final itinerary of the field trip and discuss the details
such as transportation, accommodation, meals, and itinerary.
Scene 3: You are tasked to present the final itinerary to the students’ parents
during the quarterly parents’ meeting.
Scene 4: Upon arrival at your destination, you talk to the hotel caretaker about
your reservations. You inquire about breakfast, hotel keys, extra beddings, and
room service.

Scene 5: You ask a police officer and a street vendor (on two different instances)
for directions to the beach because the class is lost somewhere in town.
Scene 6: The class needs to eat in the nearest fast-food restaurant. After taking
all the orders from your classmates, you go to the counter to place the orders.
However, some of the orders are not available so you ask for alternate combos
from the fast-food crew, and you make decisions for the rest of the class.
Scene 7: You have a free half day before your trip back home, so you decide on
what to do as members of the field trip committee. Your ideas and suggestions
clash, but ultimately everything is cleared out and you present the final plan to
your classmates.

Communicative strategies are the approaches or techniques on how to deal with difficulties encountered when communicating. Types of Communicative Strategy

NOMINATION  A speaker carries out nomination to collaboratively and productively establish a topic. Basically, when you employ this strategy, you try to open a topic with the people you are talking to.  It happens when a participant opens up a topic for conversation. When starting a conversation, especially when it does not arise from any previous topic, a participant starts off with inquiries. Examples: ➢ "Do you have anything to say?" ➢ "Have you heard the news about the prettiest girl in school?" ➢ "Now, it’s your turn to ask questions." ➢ "Does that make sense to you?"

You talk about various information about the location. Scene 2: You decide on the final itinerary of the field trip and discuss the details such as transportation, accommodation, meals, and itinerary. Scene 3: You are tasked to present the final itinerary to the students’ parents during the quarterly parents’ meeting. Scene 4: Upon arrival at your destination, you talk to the hotel caretaker about your reservations. You inquire about breakfast, hotel keys, extra beddings, and room service.

Scene 6: The class needs to eat in the nearest fast-food restaurant. After taking all the orders from your classmates, you go to the counter to place the orders. However, some of the orders are not available so you ask for alternate combos from the fast-food crew, and you make decisions for the rest of the class. Scene 7: You have a free half day before your trip back home, so you decide on what to do as members of the field trip committee. Your ideas and suggestions clash, but ultimately everything is cleared out and you present the final plan to your classmates.
