 The two projects were the implementation of the Youth Housing and Reintegration
Service including After Care Service which is part of the Queensland Implementation

the BCT is to engage with clients on a voluntary basis and ensure that they are provided
the most effective service to reduce the repeat nature of interventions by both QPS and
CSS. This is to ensure that those children, young people and their families who have
been impacted by Domestic and Family Violence, and who are at risk of entering, or
who have already entered the child protection system, are provided with the
appropriate levels of services and supports.
 This position enhanced my practice and developed my understanding of the

practice and developed a further desire to broaden my professional pathway with the
department.

 My role was as intake officer for Caloundra Child Safety Service Centre. This intake was

valued and positive in their roles and development.
December 13, 2004
 I entered the department in December 2004 beginning as a CSO with the Children
Under Orders Team, remaining in this position for nearly 12 months. For a further 12
months I was with the ‘front end’ team as an investigation and assessment officer and
remained in this position, with a short stint of acting in the Team Leader role. Whilst
acting as Team Leader I increased my skill level and knowledge with the entry of weekly
and monthly statistical data collection, and the writing of the monthly report to Zonal.
There was also a need to develop work plans that will address the present backlog
situation, so that the ‘go live’ with ICMS on the 27/11/06 would be the smoothest
transition possible.
PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT:
2003 - 2004 I was employed as Social Worker/Research Analyst for the Eaglehawk Indigenous
Support Program, a division of Darumbal Community Youth Service Incorporated (Darumbal).
The Eaglehawk Indigenous Family Support Centre (Eaglehawk) is support services whose
clients are youth, parents, carers and extended families in the Rockhampton region and are in

December, 2003, by way of the Department of Families, Queensland
Families: Future Directions Strategies.
The role involved a diversity of skills that included developing culturally diverse and
appropriate services and projects, program coordination, case management, training, data
collection, advocacy and report writing as well as assisting in developing models for Indigenous
family strengths-based intervention with other staff members, families, individuals and
stakeholders.
2002- 2004 I was employed as Social Worker/Program Manager employed by the Central
Queensland Regional Training Centre for Social & Emotional Well-Being, a division of Bidgerdii
Community Health Service. I was responsible for training, facilitation and the design and
delivery of basic and advanced accredited and non-accredited training and the delivery of
support programs to the community and health professions using the philosophy of Holistic
Health and based on the Primary Health Care Model. I was also responsible for providing
counselling and support services to Aboriginal, Torres Strait and South Sea Islander peoples

Sexual Assault. This position involved working within a feminist collective agency, crisis
counselling that supported victims of sexual abuse, assault, and domestic violence. The role
also encompassed advocacy, mediation and community development, group work and
supporting those with mental health issues and disabilities.

ACHIEVEMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
My background in Child Safety, Health, Policy, Disabilities, Aged and Palliative Care, Sexual
Assault, Dispute Resolution, and working with indigenous organisations and communities, has
built the foundation for my current professional practice and core values. I have much
appreciation for my role in the Department as a Social Worker has given me both professionally
and personally. My desire is always to discover and be part of professional development and
pathways that allows me to gain further knowledge and skills in my chosen profession. The
opportunity to lecture for Central Qld University (CQU) Noosa Hub over the past four years has
been a positive experience for my core values, professional development and personal
achievements.
I continue to supervise and mentor Social Work Students on placement with the
department and have done so for the last seven years, some entering the Department of Child
Safety as Child Safety Officers. This has been a rewarding and valuable experience for myself
both professionally and personally. The ability to supervise and mentor a student reminds me
of my core values, professional framework and ethics; as well as enhancing my own
professional development, as I have the chance to listen to an emergent practitioner’s
knowledge and concepts.
As Team Leader with Innisfail CSSC Ongoing Intervention and Foster Care Assessment Team I
was able to actively work with staff to achieve team cohesiveness and assisted in the
development of skills with staff in supporting growth in their practice and skills knowledge
where their professional understanding and better practice achieved better outcomes for the
children, families and Foster Carers.
I developed a roster of supervision on an individual level and with the team, introduced time
management plans and a working program that met time lines with court matters. Once
structure had been put into place the work environment change occurred to staff that were
more positive and focused on achieving better outcomes.
As acting Team Leader in Ongoing Intervention and Intervention with Parental
Agreement (IAPA) as well as Investigation, Assessment and Intake with Caloundra CSSC I
had the opportunity to be a develop further skills as a practitioner, and increase my knowledge
and experience in leading and directing the team to fulfil their roles to maximise responses to
children at risk. The diversity of the roles has supported my interests in building partnerships
in the community and maintaining these, hence the development of more resources for
children and families to assist with developing capacity, bringing change and having more
purposeful interventions.
As Senior Policy Officer with Major Projects and Reviews enabled me to gain further skills
and knowledge that now give me greater understanding of how policy informs practice. My
child safety practice framework and knowledge was the experience required to be part of the
report and guidelines writing for two major projects, which were the ‘Youth Homelessness
Project’ and the ‘Domestic and Family Violence Pilot Project’.

  • 6. ACHIEVEMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND My background in Child Safety, Health, Policy, Disabilities, Aged and Palliative Care, Sexual Assault, Dispute Resolution, and working with indigenous organisations and communities, has built the foundation for my current professional practice and core values. I have much appreciation for my role in the Department as a Social Worker has given me both professionally and personally. My desire is always to discover and be part of professional development and pathways that allows me to gain further knowledge and skills in my chosen profession. The opportunity to lecture for Central Qld University (CQU) Noosa Hub over the past four years has been a positive experience for my core values, professional development and personal achievements. I continue to supervise and mentor Social Work Students on placement with the department and have done so for the last seven years, some entering the Department of Child Safety as Child Safety Officers. This has been a rewarding and valuable experience for myself both professionally and personally. The ability to supervise and mentor a student reminds me of my core values, professional framework and ethics; as well as enhancing my own professional development, as I have the chance to listen to an emergent practitioner’s knowledge and concepts. As Team Leader with Innisfail CSSC Ongoing Intervention and Foster Care Assessment Team I was able to actively work with staff to achieve team cohesiveness and assisted in the development of skills with staff in supporting growth in their practice and skills knowledge where their professional understanding and better practice achieved better outcomes for the children, families and Foster Carers. I developed a roster of supervision on an individual level and with the team, introduced time management plans and a working program that met time lines with court matters. Once structure had been put into place the work environment change occurred to staff that were more positive and focused on achieving better outcomes. As acting Team Leader in Ongoing Intervention and Intervention with Parental Agreement (IAPA) as well as Investigation, Assessment and Intake with Caloundra CSSC I had the opportunity to be a develop further skills as a practitioner, and increase my knowledge and experience in leading and directing the team to fulfil their roles to maximise responses to children at risk. The diversity of the roles has supported my interests in building partnerships in the community and maintaining these, hence the development of more resources for children and families to assist with developing capacity, bringing change and having more purposeful interventions. As Senior Policy Officer with Major Projects and Reviews enabled me to gain further skills and knowledge that now give me greater understanding of how policy informs practice. My child safety practice framework and knowledge was the experience required to be part of the report and guidelines writing for two major projects, which were the ‘Youth Homelessness Project’ and the ‘Domestic and Family Violence Pilot Project’.
